Darryl spent a quarter-century in the Missouri State Penitentiary for a crime that he did not commit. After being released, he founded Miracle of Innocence, a charity that helps free innocent people and set them up for success after incarceration. The hearing concludes, and our team drives to St. Joseph to visit the site where Sandy was first interrogated by police: the St. Joseph State Hospital. Now the site of a prison and a museum, we work to understand the disturbing past of Missouri’s mental health facilities and investigate why so many people with mental illness are placed in Missouri prisons.
