  • In this episode of Queer Story Time, host Stevie interviews Ben Greene (he/him), an international public speaker, transgender man, and author of the book "My Child is Trans, Now What?". As a passionate advocate for transgender youth, Ben strives to meet everyone with compassion, regardless of their starting point. Join us as Ben shares insights on the importance of unconditional parental support, the impact of societal expectations, and his ongoing advocacy work.

    Key Points:

Parental Support: Ben emphasizes that children exploring their gender identity need unconditional love and support from their parents. Delaying support can lead to feelings of isolation and a desire to leave home as soon as possible.Exploration: Allowing children to explore their gender identity without judgment is crucial. Exploration is a natural part of childhood and should not be restricted by rigid gender norms.Gender Expectations: Parents often impose their own gender expectations on their children. Letting go of these expectations benefits all children, helping them develop into emotionally intelligent and confident adults.Misconceptions: Ben discusses his own fears and misconceptions about hormone therapy, noting that societal narratives often distort the realities of transitioning.Identity: It's important to recognize that trans individuals have multifaceted identities beyond their gender. Trans people lead diverse and fulfilling lives.Advocacy: Ben addresses lawmakers, highlighting that anti-trans laws are unpopular and fail to address pressing societal issues. He urges them to consider the broader impact of their actions.Support Networks: Queer and trans youth should find supportive networks and allies to help them navigate challenges and advocate on their behalf.Storytelling: Sharing personal stories is a profound way to foster connection and understanding. Holding space for each other’s truths is essential.Future Projects: Ben is working on a fantasy novel that explores the magic inherent in the trans experience, aiming to put more positive and diverse narratives into the world.

  • Introduction:

Hello, everyone. It’s Stevie (they/she) here, your Queer Story Time podcast host. Today, October 11th, marks both National Coming Out Day and the release of episode 0, the introductory episode of Queer Story Time, The Podcast. Listeners from all corners of the globe are warmly welcomed.

    Background:

Queer Story Time began in March 2021, originally on Instagram Live, with Stevie completing over 50+ episodes. However, due to medical school studies, the podcast took a hiatus, with Stevie always intending to make a comeback. Now, Queer Story Time, The Podcast is back and better than ever!

    Personal Journey:

Growing up as a Christian Pastor’s Kid brought Stevie many challenges, trauma, and experiences of anti-queer rhetoric. After contemplating whether to share this in the introductory episode, Stevie decided on truth & authenticity. This podcast aims to shed light on the fact that many queer and trans individuals must conceal their true selves due to societal stigmas & pressures.

    The Queer and Trans Experience:

For many in the queer and trans community, concealing their authentic selves is a necessity for personal safety. This often creates a profound disconnect between their true identity and the persona they present to the world. Queer Story Time’s goal is to humanize our experiences.

    Stevie's Story:

Stevie Inghram, a queer and trans femme, opens up about their childhood and young adult years, which revolved around the Christian church. This upbringing exposed Stevie to isolation, bullying, and attempts to "pray away" same-sex attraction.

    Professional Journey:

To heal from their past, Stevie embarked on a journey that involved delving into yoga, Buddhism, Ayurveda, and naturopathic medicine. Stevie's mission is to create a world where queer and trans people can not only survive but thrive!

    Purpose of Queer Story Time:

In a world where anti-queer/trans legislation and misinformation persist, sharing stories can change both hearts and minds. Stevie believes that the LGBTQ+ community's fight for rights, like marriage equality, illustrates the power of storytelling in driving progress.

    Logistics of the Podcast:

Episodes of the podcast will typically run between 30 to 60 minutes, featuring diverse guests and topics. The intention of Queer Story Time, The Podcast, is to educate, elevate, and empower its listeners. Episodes will be released bi-weekly, with potential scheduling adjustments.

Leave A Review & Follow QST:

We encourage our listeners to leave reviews and share the podcast with friends and family. Welcome to Queer Story Time, The Podcast, where Stevie aims to inspire listeners to live authentically. Stay tuned for Episode 1 near the end of October.
