Will Cumbia is back! Inspired by our conversation when reviewing the Eurovision Movie, we now expand on the ideas we mentioned and talk about the use of accents throughout āmainstreamā movies and shows.
Episode breakdown:
First, we explain a bit of our positionality and clarify how weāll be using the term āaccentsā before chatting about the three different uses of accents Iāve observed in movies and series. Then, we talk about examples (see below), the role of accents in portraying stereotypes, diversity in grammatic structures, accents changing over space and time, and much more! We close by discussing why this is an important subject to discuss, and mention two VERY SPECIAL announcements at the very end :)

Join us as we finish our review of the fantasy novel "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss, published in 2007. We discuss World Building, Writing Style, and Use of Medium, while debating about the amount of metaphor usage, discussing crooked noses and perfect ears, and gushing over the writing.
Pre-Review: Preface & summary of book
Part 1: Discussing character
Part 2: Character, Plot, and World Building
Part 3: World Building, Writing Style, Use of Medium
Editorās note:
Since recording, I've found out that there is a pronunciation guide available in the ādeluxe special editionā version of the book, and several YouTube videos on the channel āThe Eolianā where Rothfuss goes through some pronunciations, but itās done as an FAQ so it's very hard to find specific pronunciations. I do stand by my 9.5, because I believe things like a pronunciation guide should be accessible to all readers ;)

Pre-Review: Prefacing the book and summarizing the story.
Part 1: Discussing character

Editorās note:
Minute 9:15-9:30 ā To clarify on my comment: I do not appreciate that women donāt have a lot of options in this setting, however I appreciate that Rothfuss addressed the reality of the options for women in this type of society.
