Valentine is a Christian feast day regarding a martyr called Valentine. He was jailed for having Christian beliefs. He helped young men and soldiers get married in the 8th century, thus, viewed as a patron saint of lovers. He was later executed in Rome by the Roman emperor Claudius ll, for refusing to renounce his faith. It has also become an appreciable cultural, religious and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world. It is often commemorated annually on February 14th.

Positive affirmation are positive phrases or statements, used to challenge unhelpful or negative thoughts.These affirmative phrases, gives your self-esteem a positive boost; by affirming your self-worth via reflection on your core values and helps give a broader perspective of yourself.
There are 3 key ideas that underpins self-affirmation.These are:
Global narratives about ourselves, saying we are flexible, moral & capable of adapting to different circumstances. This makes up our self-identity(Cohen & Sherman, 2014).
Secondly, we just need to be competent and adequate in different areas, that we personally value in order to be moral, flexible and good. (Steele, 1988).
Lastly, we maintain self-integrity by acting in ways that authentically merit acknowledgement and praise. We say affirmations because we want to deserve praise for acting in ways that are consistent with that particular personal value.

Abuse, trauma and neglect makes a child feel despondent and worthless. Such children blame themselves for this issue, rather than recognising their primary caregivers as being unreliable and dangerous. They are often ridden with shame, low self-esteem, guilt and a poor self-image. Impact of child complex trauma, do last well beyond childhood. Research shows, that child trauma survivors sometimes experience : more suspensions and expulsions, learning problems, including lower grades in academics. Such children utilise increased mental and health services.

In today's episode, Grace explores more on trauma bonding. A concept developed by 2 psychologists: Susan Painter and Donald Dutton. Two major factors that add to the formation of a trauma bond are a power imbalance and intermittent reward and punishment. It is based on terror, dominance and unpredictability. Trauma bonding occurs mostly in romantic relationships but can also, happen in platonic friendships, cults, hostage situations, sex trafficking (especially of minors), carers / child relationships, incestuous relationships, hazing or tours of duty among military personnel.
