In this episode of Sound Space, we bring the podcast to a close. We wanted to express our heartfelt gratitude for your support and engagement. It has been an honour to share stories and insights with you in the world of sound. We started this podcast out of our passion for audio and our eagerness to hear from others. We are grateful for the opportunity to have brought these conversations to you. Regrettably, we've decided to end this podcast, but we're excited about other projects we're working on. As freelancers, we often juggle multiple projects, and we didn't want to compromise on the quality of the podcast. As we reflect on our time with this podcast, some of the most memorable moments and topics that come to mind include our discussions on the challenges in the industry, the importance of networking, and the joy of discovering new techniques and approaches to music, audio, and sound design. She is a talented singer-songwriter originally from White Rock, BC, but is now based in Montreal, Quebec. With a lifelong passion for music, Rachel began playing and singing from a young age and went on to study voice and piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music, where she honed her skills under the guidance of vocal coach Debra DeVaughn. Rachel has achieved recognition for her music, including an appearance in the 200th episode of Supernatural, and she has been a finalist in several prestigious competitions. Her most recent projects include a collaboration with jazz saxophonist Petr Cancura and the release of a new single titled Warmer Light. As of 2023 her cover of "Carry On Wayward Son" has accumulated nearly 7 million listens on Spotify. With over 30,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, Rachel is definitely a rising star in the Canadian music scene.

He is a Montreal-based composer, educator, and passionate artist with over 50 years of experience in the field. He has a Bachelor’s degree in music and a Master’s degree in composition from McGill University. As a professor at Concordia, he founded the Concordia Electroacoustic Music Studios in 1971 and has taught a multitude of courses ranging from sound exploration, music technology, history, sound design for animation, and many more fascinating topics at the undergraduate level. He also co-founded the Canadian Electroacoustic Community in the mid-eighties, pioneered the Electroacoustic Studies program at Concordia University, a one-of-a-kind undergraduate education experience, and was the chair of the department of music and director of the Concordia concert hall from 91-94. As musicians and sound lovers, we have countless things to learn from him, he is nothing less than an icon and certainly an inspiration to the sound community.

For this season’s premier, you will have the chance to hear from a true legend in the industry, Dr. Eldad Tsabary. He is a Montreal-based composer, associate professor and chair of the Concordia music department, and co-director of the Performing Arts Research Cluster (Le PARC). While at the university, he founded the Concordia laptop orchestra also known as CLOrk, which is now internationally recognized as one of the largest electroacoustic ensembles in the world. Needless to say, Tsabary has dedicated his life to the development of electroacoustic music worldwide. His contributions to the industry both in its relationship with technology and within the academic world make Tsabary one of the guests from whom we have the most to learn.

His impressive experience and talent as a songwriter, composer, sound designer, writer, educator, and musical performer are so inspiring and make him an expert from whom we have lots to learn. His background includes a B.F.A., an M.A., and a Ph.D. in various areas such as music theory, songwriting, African-American music history in Canada, jazz performance, Electroacoustics, composition, and much more. Nevertheless, Pinsinneault has not kept his knowledge all to himself. He is a dedicated educator, professor, and mentor to many, including Jaian and Anthony, who he taught at Concordia University where he currently teaches. He is undoubtedly a great professional who has devoted his life to the study of sound and music, and has passed down his knowledge to many budding musicians and sound engineers. Furthermore, his experiences also include Bug Alley, a Grammy-nominated vocal jazz group (1980), Virtual Memoir a full-length novel with a connected ‘concept album’ (1995), Macbeth, where he undertook the original music, musical direction, and performance; Fragments of Knowing, a performance art/installation piece (2009), and Signes, a painting exhibition for which he composed music and a portion of the audio. This is an exciting episode with a great guest and lots of interesting stories and knowledge about the industry. Enjoy!

Luca has a diploma from Vanier College in music performance and his talent and commitment have brought him to work with many great artists in the industry like Corneille, Lili Ann De Francesco, Ariane Moffat, Saramee, May Wells, Cinzia & the Eclipse, Imposs, and many others. He has also worked as a live sound engineer for the performing arts theatres Le Balcon and the House of Jazz. Currently, Luca works as a music producer for his clientele at Planet Studios. In episode 11 of Sound Space, co-hosts Anthony Caci and Jaian Mascotto welcome Marquise Desmarais. She is an incredible indie folk artist and composer from Montreal, Canada. She attended Marie-Victorin College where she graduated with a music degree and a specialization in arrangement, and continued on to obtain her bachelor’s diploma in music composition and interpretation from the Université du Québec à Montréal, wherefrom she also obtain a graduate degree in film music. She has been acknowledged for her musical talent, obtaining the Hubert-Rousseau for her composition Au Premier Étage and was selected for the MusiQualite finals, as well as being welcomed by the Festival en Chanson de Saint-Ambroise. She is a wonderful multi-instrumentalist who can play guitar, piano and ukulele, and sings just as well. Her music has been streamed on XM Radio, Spotify, and local radio stations across Canada. She has done so much with her skills, she is also one of the lead vocalists and the guitarist for the comedic acoustic trio Blondes Naturelles, which has released their self-titled EP, and single Ghost-Moi.

In episode ten of Sound Space, we welcome extraordinary Montreal artist, producer, and DJ, Tiana McLaughlan, who goes by Honeydrip. She has a minor in Electroacoustic Studies from Concordia University where she got to explore modular synthesis and composed several pieces on a Doepfer, where she had the chance to experiment with sound design, foley, soundscaping, and was a member of the Concordia Laptop Orchestra. She is a talented musician with influences from many genres such as techno, dancehall, Caribbean-infused electronic, and leftfield dance music. Her works include an EP entitled ANTI-EGO with songs like “Brand New Flava”, “Outta Here”, and “Waistline”; she has also performed at Piknic Electronik, Igloofest, Nano MUTEK, and The Redbull Music Festival. Her talent and hard work led her to be named one of Exclaim! magazine’s ‘New Faves’ artists. We have lots to hear from her, and tons to learn! Let’s listen to her truly captivating story!

In today’s episode, Anthony and Jaian welcome Neusha Taherian. She is a composer, musician, multi-instrumentalist, and classical trained pianist from Montreal, Quebec. Her expertise allows her to listen to all music with a keen eye, but she mainly specializes in electronic works, contemporary music, and soundtracks. Among some of her applications and background include deep-listening practices, acting, directing, graphic scores, and traditional Irish Music. She has a college diploma from John Abbott College in theatre, film, and communications. She also has a bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Music Composition from Concordia University, and is currently completing a master’s of Fine Arts in Music Composition for the Screen at Columbia College Chicago. Taherian is the co-founder of the Concordia Composers Guild, which has the goal of bridging the gap between music education and the industry. She is not only an extremely talented artist, but a selfless and community oriented individual in the industry. She has under her belt, experience as a writer and musical director for festivals, such as the Montreal Fringe Festival, being the musical director and composer for the project “Slaying in Suburbia” in 2018, being the composer for the play To Kill a Sacred Duck in 2019, and being a composer for Inner Path a short film by Camille Verreault. She is an incredibly inspiring figure with lots today and more to teach on this month’s episode.

In episode eight of Sound Space, we will be talking to Juan Gomez about his passion for sound, music, and his work in the industry. Gomez is a Uruguayan audio engineer and guitar player currently residing in Montreal, Quebec. He began his career in the band Jimbo and in 2019 he gained a diploma from Algonquin College in Music Industry Arts where he stood out from the very beginning. Later, he became a studio assistant at Planet Studios and quickly became a favourite with artists and clients for his hard work , client management, and extraordinary audio skills. Currently, Gomez runs multiple studio sessions at the same location as a freelance recording and mixing engineer. He has worked on studio projects with artists such as Nikki Yanofsky, Corneille, Star Académie participants, and the TVA series En Studio. Additionally, he teaches studio production techniques and sound design courses at the College of Recording Arts Canada and works as a sound technician at Sovo Technologies where he engineers subtitle recordings. For today’s episode, we welcome Kayla Shears. She is an incredible artist, composer, sound designer, and electronic artist from California. She lives in Montreal where she has studied and built a career. Her education includes a college degree in Communication Studies from Vanier College, and a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Electroacoustic Studies from Concordia University where she received five grants and awards during her studies. Here is where we had the opportunity to first meet her. Her music and hard work have allowed her to create a platform in the electronic music scene across the world and led her to perform in multiple music festivals. She is the founder of E.Sunrise Productions, a multidisciplinary audio-visual media creation project that undertakes many creative endeavors such as prosthetic reality, video editing, sound design, and other media arts. Furthermore, she is a part of the board of ELAN Quebec’s Inclusion Committee representing artists with disabilities. Her work experience includes being an audio visual technician for over three years, being a sound specialist at Rock Camp for Girls for over two years, and her music production for Kloud Nin9 releases, these include: Keys of Starlight, Rising Luminosity, Breathe Out, Book of Life, Magic Island, and Unveil. She also has credits such as sound designing for the short film Spark, and sound editing for the short film Jessica for the White Bloody Publishing and Khaos Lab Company.

In episode five of sound space, we welcome Vincent Gravel Trudel. Gravel Trudel is a composer for film, television, and video games from Montréal, Quebec. He has a a bachelor’s in music and a graduate diploma in film music form the Université du Québec à Montréal. Gravel Trudel has had an incredible path within the industry and has lots to talk about. He has composed music for many short films, video games, and more, among which are Sur ta rue on Canal D, J’ai une question on Crave, the film The Valery’s Suitcase which was presented at the Cannes film festival, and Viens Manger which was a finalist for the DUX prize. The games he has composed for include Aleo VR and Gravitas. He has also mixed audio for the game Pumpkin Jack. Finally, he works as a composer at Airfix Music, a mixing engineer at Le Confessionnal, and an audio engineer at TV5 Quebec. We are very excited to have him on, and listen to his story.

In episode four of sound space, we invite Danielle Savage to talk about her works with sound as well as her inspiring journey. Savage has a bachelor’s of fine art in Electroacoustic Studies with a specialization in composition from the University of Concordia, where she also worked as a research assistant for Eldad Tsabary. She has studied composition with the likes of Georges Dimitrov, Sandeep Bhagwati, Rosemary Mountain and José Luis Hurtado and was a member of the Concordia Laptop Orchestra in 2018. Different ensembles, such as the Low Frequency Trio and the Bozzini Quartet, have interpreted Savage’s work. Her works have appeared in Foro de Musica Nueva, at the University of New Mexico, and at the 60x60 festival at Concordia, Radio WWOZ New Orleans, Santa Barbara Public Television, ArtsWells Festival, Lux Magna Festival and Kulak's Woodshed Hollywood. Her personal projects also include Migration Parade an interactive and collaborative sound installation, Loon Town a four piece Pop/ Synth Rock/ Indie Band where she performs vocals and guitar, and like previously mentioned Low Frequency Trio - Une journée dans la vie du Grand Géocoucou.

In episode three of Sound Space, we got to talk to Jacob Lacroix-Cardinal and discuss his work and commitment to the music industry. Lacroix-Cardinal is a recording, mixing and mastering engineer from Cornwall, On., but he currently lives and works in Montreal, Qc. He attended the Algonquin College’s Music Industry and Arts program in 2013-2014, where he was a stand out engineer from the get-go. He is best known for being the house engineer at Planet Studios for 5 years, where he mixes many styles of music such as Jazz, Hip-Hop, Rock, Alternative, Pop, and many more. He has recorded hundreds of projects with bands, vocalists, voiceover artists and many mainstream artists such as Charlie Puth, Young MA, A$AP Ferg, Rosalía, Half Moon Run, and Corneille. Finally, he was also the recipient of a Juno award for his work with Half Moon Run, and has now gained success as a freelance audio engineer. Lacroix-Cardinal is an exceptionally experienced engineer, committed to his craft from whom we can all learn a thing or two, or hundreds.

Every episode, they will introduce a new guest and will dive into their beginnings and current participation, and contributions to the world of sound. In episode two of Sound Space, we welcome our very first guest Kasey Pocius to discuss their work and passion for all things sound. Pocius is an incredibly talented and driven artist from St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. They graduated from Concordia University with a BFA in Electroacoustic Studies and are currently completing a Master’s in Music Technology at McGill. In this episode, Pocius will tell us about their beginnings with music and how they have navigated the industry within Canada and internationally. They have lots to say, a lot to learn from and more than enough experience both academic and professional, to inspire future musicians and all around artists.
