  • Hello to you listening in Reykjavik, Iceland!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday with your host, Diane Wyzga.

Recently, a friend and colleague asked me if I might have “a balanced, introspective, and helpful word or two that would help us pause and think about the passage of time, priorities, where/who/what is the “center” around which life and time revolves.”

This is the way I would say it if I could say it this way:

In the richly imagined novel, Mink River by Brian Doyle a medal is being awarded to a small town cop who helped stop a terrible man from hurting others but suffered terrible injuries himself as a result. Listen to what is said on pages 309 and 310.

Thank you for your prompt, David Reynolds! Click HERE to access David’s book, Lead Learn Change, on Amazon.

Story Prompt: What would you like to say to “help us pause and think about the passage of time, priorities, where/who/what is the “center” around which life and time revolves"? Write that story!

Practical Tip: The magic of stories is also in the sharing. If you wish share your story with someone or something. All that matters is you have a story.

Maybe like me you stop and wonder who you are, where is the girl (or fellow) who used to be you, whether you’re on the right track, and so on. It feels insecure, doesn’t it, not to have all the answers sometimes. Perhaps there is great wisdom in resting in that insecurity, stop resisting, stop pushing back, wait for the time (and the answer) that will come.

The poet, Derek Walcott might have been musing on these questions when he wrote Love After Love. He might have known his words would bring comfort, hope, anticipation, maybe even optimism. That’s what poets do.

    Love After Love

    “The time will come

    when, with elation

    you will greet yourself arriving

at your own door, in your own mirror

and each will smile at the other's welcome,

    and say, sit here. Eat.

You will love again the stranger who was your self.

Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart

to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored

for another, who knows you by heart.

Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

    the photographs, the desperate notes,

peel your own image from the mirror.

Sit. Feast on your life.” [- by Derek Walcott]

  • Hello to you listening in Cologne, Germany!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.

My baby brother, Paul, is a well-married, well-established adult whom I love dearly. It seems like only yesterday the family of 9 was camping in New Hampshire. One morning the parents parked the family station wagon in a grocery store lot taking Paul with them seated in the grocery cart. Time passed. They returned with the groceries, stowed them in the station wagon, got back in and drove away leaving Paul in the shopping cart in the parking lot. Of course us kids thought this was hilarious and we waved goodbye out the windows.

Time passed. Mom looked around asking: where’s Paul? We could barely speak for laughing. One brave soul pointed back in the direction we came. Ever see a station wagon pull a 180 at high speed on a country road? There he was just where the parents left him, calmly looking around at whatever was there. Paul’s sense of serenity has stayed with him over the decades. As has his story.

Story Prompt: Once upon a time you were too young to remember; but, there are parents, siblings, maybe family friends who are all too eager to share a story or three about what happened to you when you were too young to remember. Reach out to them and discover it. What is that story? Who shared it with you? What did it feel like to hear it? Remember to “Write that story!” and say: “Thanks for the memories.”

  • Hello to you listening in Pender Island, BC, Canada!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.

To this very day my clients from classrooms to courtrooms can repeat my opening lines about presentations:

“Put down the paper and nobody gets hurt.”

“It’s a privilege to stand and deliver your work with your words in your voice; so use it!”

The human voice is the most powerful instrument we have to heal, inspire, unify, and entertain. A “heartfelt story artfully told” breaks down barriers, invites community, solves problems, and influences decisions. I believe that our audiences are hungry to receive the gift of our spoken words.

As a speaker you will hear right away when a written turn of phrase fails, when you lack a bridge from one thought to the next, or when your story begins to unravel like an old sweater because it lacks integrity; it does not hang together from beginning to end.

I have produced almost 1,100 podcast episodes. Over the 4 years that Stories From Women Who Walk has been on the global airwaves I’ve cultivated a practice of embedding stories and messages, tips, techniques, story prompts, commentaries, and provocative questions into mere minutes. These episodes are my audio business cards.

    Practical Tips:

    • Get comfortable with the sound of your voice.

    • The more you speak your words out loud the more confident you become, more fearless, more influential.

    • Embrace the power of your spoken word.

    • Practice speaking your written words before you deliver a program, speech, presentation, or idea pitch.

    • Your clear, concise, and compelling spoken words are a gift from you to your audience. Take advantage of it!

  • Hello to you listening all around the world!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga!

Several years ago I started the practice of opening each daily 60 Seconds episode with a shout out: “Hello to you listening in ....” I’ve been asked whether there really are listeners in these locations and why do I say “Hello”?

Yes, indeed! Each and every location is really real representing folks listening from where their feet touch the ground or road they are walking. How do I know? The Simplecast platform provides its users with a global map that highlights in yellow the cities and towns where folks are listening to my podcast. I’ve collected 81 pages of global locations.

Why do I continue this practice? To recognize, acknowledge and thank you for listening in on our global community, even if we never meet. I research each location to learn something more about your home. Then I share a URL in the Episode Notes so other curious listeners can visit online; together we explore the world.

CTA: If you have not yet heard your town or city mentioned on this podcast, email me so I can be sure to give you a shout-out! Meanwhile, keep listening, share this podcast with your friends and rellies, and email me some good words to hear from you. I read and reply to each and every nice note!

  • Hello to you listening in Snohomish, Washington!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.

What problems do I solve? I help women discover, shape and share their Origin Story - the story of how they got from There to Here - so they can connect with, engage, and inspire their audience to action.

Imagine the endless possibilities to inspire, influence, and persuade with your origin story: branding, marketing, public speaking, keynotes, presentations, podcast interviews, pitching your business or ideas to investors or prospects, and more!

When you showcase your origin story you reveal:

    • Who you are; what you want people to know about the genuine you;

    • What you stand for, your reasons for your goals and ideas; and,

    • How your vision for what could be connects with the values of the people you’re speaking to.

How do I work with you? With personalized one-on-one consulting, self-guided learning, and production assistance I help you say what you mean and mean what you say so that you are seen, heard, understood, and listened to. For example:

"Perhaps you are a mid-career professional or business owner looking to build greater visibility and leadership. I help experienced women - like yourself - discover their Who as well as their Why, clarify their ideas, and amplify their messages in their own voice with the spirit of who they are."

"This might be the moment to recreate your business or personal narrative, to rediscover your talents and write your next chapter. Working together we’ll stimulate deep self-reflection and bold action so you confidently, deliberately become who you aspire to be."

"Picture your origin story shaping your marketing, your ideas transforming into powerful presentations, your voice resonating with conviction as you share your message. I'll help you manifest this vision."

CTA: The key to our partnership is collaborating to bring your desired future into reality. Curious? Click HERE to arrange your no-sales, Complimentary Coaching Consult. Isn’t it time to say what you mean and mean what you say?

I’ve been asked, What one thing do you offer that no one else does? Here’s my answer: “I listen keenly and then tell the world something it needs to hear.” Perhaps like these borrowed words:

"Lord, make me a channel of disturbance.

Where there is apathy, let me provoke

Where there is mindless compliance, let me bring questioning

Where there is silence, may I encourage voices to be heard

Where there is too much turning away and too little action, grant me disruption for community’s sake

When laws dictate that pain is ignored

When tradition speaks louder than need

Grant that I may seek to do some good rather than talk about what needs doing." [Anon]

Maybe like me you practice paying attention to signs, symbols, people, and opportunities that show us the way, help us make a decision, provide what we need just when we need it. The Universe has unlimited ways to get our attention, wake us up, and help guide us on the path. It’s a good reminder that we do not go it alone.

The other day I reconnected with Donna Cravotta, friend, colleague and the brilliance behind Cravotta Media Group and Real 50 Over 50 Visibility Project. We arranged for a 20-minute Meet & Greet that became a richly rewarding 90-minute heart-to-heart dialogue.

Along the way I learned about a daily practice that Donna has taught others: You don’t go to bed until you can name something you learned and someone you helped.

Story Prompt: What daily practice of yours keeps you going? Write that story!

Maybe like me you’ve moved from one place to another, or changed job positions, become an entrepreneur instead of an employee, or moved duty stations if you are in the military. I’ve experienced all these changes.

But, you know what, I didn’t fully consider beforehand what I would be leaving behind until I read this question:

“If I were moving away soon, what would I most want to do, and who would I most want to spend time with?”

  • Hello to you listening in Ritzville, Washington!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.

Fact: No one can teach anyone how to be a storyteller; although there are many who claim to be able to do just that.

But there are people who can teach you how to teach yourself to be a storyteller. I am one of them.

Here’s how I teach you to teach yourself. We start here: you know the story you want to tell, the ideas you want to clarify, the message you want to amplify; all you need is someone to help listen it out of you; to help you find the words you didn’t know you had. Why is this key? Because you’re in charge; you’re empowered; you will use your own words in your own voice to connect human-to-human. Emotional connection doesn’t get any more authentic than that.

Over my lifetime I’ve dedicated myself to helping professionals bring their stories to life in the publishing realm, courtrooms, hospitals, board meetings, or the airwaves. My clients’ stories have influenced juries, built markets, spread ideas, and catalyzed change. What’s more, I created my 60 Seconds podcast episode method - a niche the world needs - almost 4 years ago and grew it to over 1,000 global episodes.

Benefit & Take-away: What’s the benefit to you? What will you take away? Your origin or personal brand story for marketing, connection, and influence. A heartfelt story artfully told about how you got from There to Here, the challenges you faced, the goals you accomplished, and why the journey matters so that you, your work and ideas are recognized for the value they are! Your story told with clarity and confidence.

CTA: Curious? Let’s have a conversation. You can arrange for your no-sales complimentary Discovery Coaching Session by tapping the link in the Episode Notes OR e-mailing me at [email protected] OR direct message me on LinkedIn.

You’ve always had the power, my dear! Now it’s time to tell your origin story.

  • Hello to you listening in Pamplona, Spain!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.

I was asked the other day what do I do when I’m stuck? When the client work isn’t as robust as I’d like? When the podcast episodes don’t seem to flow from a place of creativity but feel bogged down in muck.

You know what I mean. We’ve all been there. I have an idea to share and I bet you have some, too.

Research has shown that movement, not language, is the foundation of thought. [Mind in Motion: How Action Shapes Thought by Barbara Taversky] Action shapes thought. There’s a lot of neuroscience I don’t understand about how it works; but I can say this: while I don’t know how it works I do know that it works. Motion is the lotion for our thoughts. Maybe we’re a species of movers and shakers first. Think about it! We were cave drawing before we began talking in words.

When you get to that place where you feel stuck in the mucky middle of a project, idea, book chapter, whatever. Get up and move. Draw your stuckness. Stick figures are fine. Symbols are great. It’s not about the art; it’s about the motion that creates the thought you want to have. Try big sidewalk chalks on a concrete driveway or magic markers on a big easel pad. I like the big Post It easel pads. I can draw on a page, rip it off the pad, stick it to the wall and after I have a few I step back to look at the problem. The answer is often staring me right in the face.

Question: What also works for you when you are stuck in the mucky middle?

  • Hello to you listening in Fort Collins, Colorado!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.

Two Old Women by Vella Wallis recounts an Alaska legend of betrayal, courage and survival. Based on an Athabascan Indian legend passed from mothers to daughters of the Upper Yukon Valley in Alaska this tale tells how 2 old women abandoned by their tribe during a brutal winter famine create a means to survive. After being left behind in a snowy woods one woman says to the other, “We may die out here - at least let us die trying.”

My prayer goes like this: “One day I will die. Let me die doing - no try.”

Story Prompt: I imagine you have a prayer of your own. Where did it come from? What inspired it? How does it help you? Write that story!

Practical Tip: The magic of stories is also in the sharing. If you wish share your story with someone or something. All that matters is you have a story.

You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!

  • Hello to you listening in Jablonne nad Orlici, Czech Republic!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.

Maybe like me you have spaces in the year when you are not overly busy. In fact, you might be underly busy.

Perhaps your reaction is to scramble to be productive.

But productivity is not always related to action.

What if there’s another valuable way to use the underly busy times?

Amos Tversky, an expert of decision making, wrote, “The secret to doing good research is always to be a little underemployed. You waste years by not being able to waste hours.” [Amos Tversky — An Amazing Man]

Practical Tip: Think about this for a moment. What’s the rush? There is time to devote to day dreaming or staring out the window while giving our wonderfully creative imaginations time to breathe, show up, solve a problem.

Question: What would be so wrong about giving ourselves permission to be a little underly busy? How might that notion play out in your world?

  • Hello to you listening in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories from Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.

Do you FEEL it inside? Nagging at you? Just out of reach?

You have something to say. But you can’t find the words. So, your story can’t create the change you want to see.

For 30 years, I’ve helped people take their story from a message only they could hear to the publishing world, the courtroom, hospitals, board meetings and more.

Stories that swayed juries. Built markets. Spread ideas. Changed things.

Today, I help socially conscious women professionals and entrepreneurs create their origin story with the spirit of who they are. It may be the most consequential story you’ll ever tell; the one that reveals how you got from There to Here.

If you can feel the story in you, that’s enough to get started. I’ll help you find the words you didn’t know you had so you can give voice to the heart of your message and the message of your heart. Then we’ll launch it so you can create the change you want to see and be.

CTA: If you are a professional or entrepreneur who's committed to building her origin story with the spirit of who you are, for branding, marketing, speaking, your About page, or something else, let’s work together to create the change you want to see!

Feel welcome to DM me: Diane on LinkedIn, check out all the wonderful offerings on the Quarter Moon Story Arts website, or email me at [email protected]!

Let's make 2024 the year you create & tell your origin story!
