    Rita's Bio:

    Rita Jimenez is passionate about offering yoga nidra and asana in English and Spanish. Her offerings are rooted in both trauma-informed training and her lived experiences. In 2013 she started teaching yoga with two non-profits, first Street Yoga and later with Living Yoga, in Portland, Oregon. In 2020 she received her 300 hour yoga teacher training certification with Bhakti Yoga Movement Center. In 2021 Rita became a Daring to Rest Yoga Nidra Facilitator. During the pandemic she offered free yoga nidra classes online to Latina community health workers, creating a virtual space for her community to connect and heal. Rita now lives in Oaxaca, Mexico, where she paints, writes and hikes with her dog Sorpresa. Learn more about her passion for yoga via her blog

    Michelle Cassandra Johnson is an author, activist, spiritual teacher and practitioner, racial equity consultant and trainer, and intuitive healer. She approaches her life and work from a place of knowing we are, can, and must heal individually and collectively. Michelle teaches workshops and immersions and leads retreats and transformative experiences nationwide. As a dismantling racism educator, she has worked with large corporations, non-profits, and community groups. Michelle was a Tedx speaker at Wake Forest University in 2019 and has been interviewed on several podcasts in which she explores the premise and foundation of Skill in Action, along with embodied approaches to racial equity work, creating ritual in justice spaces, our divine connection with nature and Spirit, and how we as a culture can heal. Michelle published the first edition of Skill in Action: Radicalizing Your Yoga Practice to Create a Just World in 2017; and the 2nd edition of Skill in Action in November 2021, published by Shambhala Publications. Her second book,Finding Refuge: Heart Work for Healing Collective Grief, was published by Shambhala Publications in 2021. Her third book, We Heal Together: Rituals and Practice for Building Community and Connection, published by Shambhala Publications, explores the deep knowing and truth that we are interconnected; we belong to one another. We Heal Together offers rituals and practices meant to dream us into a new way of being to benefit the highest and fullest good. Her latest book, A Space For Us: A Guide For Leading Black, Indigenous, and People of Color Affinity Groups, was published by Beacon Press in August 2023.

    Michelle leads courageously from the heart with compassion and a commitment to address the heartbreak dominant culture causes for many because of the harm it creates. She inspires change that allows people to stand in their humanity and wholeness in a world that fragments most of us.

    E.B. Ferdig (she/her) has worked as a yoga therapist in Portland, Oregon for over fourteen years. She quit drinking in 2018 because the costs were outweighing the benefits of alcohol. Since that time, she has embarked on a journey of research, study and group exploration that make her believe that curiosity and compassion are the best place from where to explore habits and behavior change.

    She co-founded Unfold, an online yoga studio focused on accessibility, in 2013. She trains yoga teachers and community workers in trauma-informed movement and meditation.

    As a Sober Curious Coach, she uses motivational interviewing techniques, yoga and meditation practices, Thai-yoga body work, and Integrated Movement Therapy, depending on the needs and wants of the individual.

In this episode, I share a story from the garden and tips to connect with yourself, your food, and your environment in order to maximize nutrient absorption. Because, just like your garden, you need more than to just consume the food, you need to create conditions beneficial for absorbing the nutrients.

  • Have you ever noticed that September can be an extra challenging month for mental health? If you've experienced it, you are not alone. But did you know that you can take steps NOW, (in summer,) to decrease the September scaries? In this episode I share the cause of the September scaries and THREE things you can do this summer to start September feeling refreshed instead of burned out.


    Here are the three questions to ask when determining YOUR daily minimum requirement of yoga:

    What is the minimum amount of movement or stretching that creates enough ease in your body so that you can feel your best?

    How much stillness, quiet, or focused attention allows you to calm your mind and put things in perspective?

    What activités create a sense of connection and support from nature, the universe or divinity?
