  • Today we welcome Australian comedian Nick Schuller to the podcast for a chat about his dislike of social media, the genius of Stewart Lee and Nathan Fielder, Moving to London in March 2020 and giving away free bottles of wine at The Melbourne Comedy Festival. We also discuss the UK's fascination with Neighbours, why low quality films are being churned out at the same time as top tier television, and why SAS Australia's premiere was slightly misjudged.

  • Today we welcome Korean-Australian comedian Harry Jun to the podcast to chat about the Scottish obsession with deep fat frying and why he'd love to be a contestant on Masterchef, Gen Z's appropriation of our childhood treasures via the rise of retro cool, the bizarre Australian Kids TV Show 'Round the Twist' and why some Americans speak funny, whereby Harry introduces me to the phrase vocal fry. Harry then explains why most Australian comedians tend to know one other and why practical effects in film and TV create an emotional connection that CGI cannot compete with.

I should add that when Harry asks if Rob Lowe was in Parks and Rec? I reply 'I don't think so' which is of course wrong. How could I forget?

  • Today we welcome Comedian and Cartoonist Paul Savage to the podcast for a chat about the ever changing life cycle of a comedy set, why putting too much pressure on an opening joke can ruin an act, and why comedians today might need to keep their day jobs. We discuss why actors and footballers aged differently in the '80s, how it was impossible to find a stumbled upon TV show after the fact before the internet, and why '90s sitcoms put so much emphasis on getting your shit together at an early age. This episode was recorded during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2024, where Paul kept mislaying his stapler!

  • Today on Television Times Comedian and Broadcaster Mark Dolan drops in for a long overdue chat, and yes we do talk briefly about his rather left field move into the choppy waters of political discourse, but mostly it's a chat about trendy glasses, crusty rolls and how 'Minder' was once filmed in his dad's pub. Mark explains how he tries to find life hacks wherever possible and how he dreams of opening a chain of cafes that sell three types of stew. We also discuss the joys of a cash and carry, Trump's unexpected election win, and how Mark once attempted a terrifying ski jump on Channel 4's 'The Jump' without being able to see a thing.

  • It's Halloween, and who better to chat to than Danny Robins, the man behind the incredibly successful podcast & BBC TV show 'Uncanny'. Find out why Danny was interviewed by The Guardian as Basil Brush, which unsettling film influenced his trademark look, and how he made the jump from comedy to the paranormal. As a bonus to this Halloween episode you will also hear myself and the hilarious Clinton Baptiste talking about theatre ghosts backstage at The Tyne Theatre earlier this year, as well as an excerpt from my Edinburgh Show 'Steve Otis Gunn is Uncomfortable' where I regale the audience with my very own spooky story.

  • Today we welcome comedian and author Ian Stone to the podcast. Ian explains how he deals with divisive issues onstage and why world events have unfortunately allowed previous routines to once again become relevant. He shares his love for Billy Connolly, especially on Parkinson, and breaks down the brilliance of Ronnie Barker's comic delivery in the TV show 'Porridge'. Although Ian is very much into his music, we find out how he really felt whilst appearing on 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks'. We also chat about the slog of writing books, TV appearances versus live performance, and how Ian once co-wrote a filthy sketch for the cast of children's TV show 'Rainbow'.

  • Today we welcome U.S. comedian Louis Katz to the podcast for a deep dive into the Edinburgh Festival, and comedy in general. Louis explains why performing to Fringe audiences is a soulless and joyless experience and why he won't be coming back any time soon. Louis then name drops a celebrity penis while I explain why I was more than happy to have one of my shows cancelled. We discuss 'taking a punt' and ponder the inevitable bursting of the comedy bubble, while also wondering if podcasts might now be the audio version of reality TV.

  • Today we welcome the man who was at the absolute centre of TV and celebrity culture in the 1990s. Long before TFI Friday and Britpop there was a Friday night Channel 4 show that drew an enormous viewership among the young, and that show was 'The Word', a television show helmed by Mr Terry Christian. Starting out in radio at the age of just 19, Terry has had a remarkable career that put him front and centre of the Manchester music scene, and later in a position to fight for those bands to gain exposure on Channel 4. It hasn't been easy and Terry pulls no punches in telling his story. Listen as he regales us with tales of hanging out with James Brown and Robin Williams, and the true story behind Oliver Reed's infamous drunken interview, as well as that legendary awkward Bill Hicks interaction.

  • Today we welcome American Comedian Sid Singh to the podcast for a chat about his career in comedy, most notably in Europe, where he appeared regularly on a popular Romanian talent show. We discuss how bad eggs can seriously disrupt a performance and why Sid ended up sleeping in his car just days after winning a prestigious Edinburgh Fringe award. Listen as he relays the story of landing a life changing TV hosting job and the chaos around the whole experience, all of which just happened to occur during a global pandemic. We also discuss why banning tourists from European cities might not be the best solution for the local economy and how expensive eye glasses can seriously derail your finances.

Find out why he prefers to film in exotic places, even if scouting out a location can sometimes become dangerous, and why he's a big fan of capturing the action by shooting just one take. We discuss why watching films on a phone is a no-no, and how our ever-connectivity with devices is leading to us lose one other. • This week we welcome comedian Yuriko Kotani to the podcast for a conversation about Japan, comedy, food and telly. I was lucky enough to be able to sit down during the busy Edinburgh Fringe for a podchat with Yuriko whereby we discussed performing comedy in a language other than your own, the magic that lies within Doraemon's fourth dimensional pocket and watching Japanese horror films at way too young an age. Yuriko shares her love for The League of Gentlemen and British comedy in general, while we also discuss the beauty of both Japanese architecture and food presentation.

  • This week welcome our first proper West-Ender Anna-Jane Casey to the podcast. Currently starring as Sybil in 'Fawlty Towers-The Play', A.J. is at the top of her game, having starred in almost every musical you can think of. In fact, in turns out that she was in the very first West End show I ever saw. We discuss a myriad of subjects including Dean Gaffney's entrance into the jungle in 'I'm a Celeb', the PTSD of living through a global pandemic and why it might be time to bring back the word Pussy. A.J. loves a challenge, which is why she would quite like to be a contestant on 'SAS-Who Dares Wins' and have 'staff' spit in her face. She explains why John Cleese is a master of comedy before leaving us with something of a motto for life: 'if you've not cleaned your own u-bend you've lost the concept of life'

  • This week we welcome U.S. Stand-up Mike Lukas to the podcast for a chat about all things comedy. We talk about his family's Lithuanian roots and the fear of Russian invasion that still haunts the community. Mike explains why people tend to fear change, regardless of the reasoning behind it and why the world might just need a reset. We chat way too much about hair, baldness and wigs before settling into a convo about Mike's Funny Muscle books and the mechanics of building a comedy set. We then tiptoe around the tricky topics of the day and discuss pushing back against our own programming when trying to adapt to new ways of thinking. Mike takes us through his journey as a stand-up, from sweaty clubs to performing at the Montreal Comedy Festival, which in turn led to him being booked on the Tonight Show and Conan, where he rubbed shoulders with celebrities such as Mr T. Subsequently Mike was booked to perform on the Second City comedy tour which ultimately landed in Las Vegas during 9/11, where he pranked the residents of his apartment complex along with his room-mate Jason Sudeikis.

  • This week we welcome director Paul Andrew Williams to the podcast to talk about his various projects including his brilliant spooky revenge crime thriller 'Bull', his four part Cary Grant Biopic 'Archie', as well as his upcoming dramatisation of the events surrounding the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes at Stockwell Tube station in 2005. Paul explains how he struggles to pinpoint genres and finds it hard to watch his own early work. He also explains why he's drawn towards true stories and subjects that deal with the father/son dynamic. We also briefly discuss the failures of the UK postal system and how a family encounter with Steven Seagal left me feeling perplexed. Paul heaps praise onto Stephen Graham, who starred in his TV drama 'The Walk-in' and gives us a tease of his upcoming movie 'The Nest' starring Andrea Riseborough and Vanessa Redgrave.

  • This week we welcome the award winning comedian and author Rosie Holt to the podcast to chat about the election and how her Tory MP character might sway the outcome, by way of her new book 'Why we were right'.

We discuss Rosie's similarities to Dua Lipa and why she'll never go on Strictly, plus why season 7 of Friends just isn't funny. Rosie explains how the X-files left her traumatised and why she cannot abide True Crime. We also discuss our most hideous jobs and admit to never having watched a single David Attenborough nature documentary.

For an extra treat you'll also get to hear how I speak using A.I. The Future is here, and the future is...well, a bit naff to be honest!

  • This week we welcome the fantastic comedian and actor Nick Helm to the podcast for a chat about his comedy beginnings, his love for Harry Hill and why he's listening to every Alice Cooper album in order whilst on tour. Nick lifts the lid on his hit BBC show Uncle and explains how he ended up dressed as an ostrich in a recent episode of Eastenders. It's a great chat that features my own son in the background, due to it being recorded during half term. Follow Nick and subscribe to the podcast using the links below:
