This week, Jai Dev sits down with comedian, co-host of There Comes a Time podcast, and fellow Deadhead, the very funny Mike Finoia.
The theme of this week’s conversation is most definitely resilience. Looking back on his career, Mike points out that the times that he has bombed or fallen on his face the hardest, ended up being the most crucial, wisdom-imparting moments that would most influence the trajectory of his life.
With a comedian on the pod, you already know that this is going to be an especially funny episode – but also, extremely insightful. The alignments between performing stand-up comedy and teaching dharma practices are truly profound: both occupations involve creatively leading your audience to a discovery of truth within themselves.
Listening to these two maestros of their craft describe their creative processes is an illuminating experience…this episode is not to be missed!

When a couple of Jai Dev’s Manifesting-Generator employees told him that we have too many Projectors on the team, he knew that he needed to learn more about Human Design. Erin Claire Jones, Human Design Guide and Leadership Coach, joins us on podcast to elucidate this profound and newly popular cartography of the spiritual structure of the human being.
Combining Astrology, Kabbalah, and the I Ching, Human Design offers us a new way of looking at the ways in which we tend to make decisions. Erin uses this system to empower her clients to not only better tune in with the natural way their energy flows, but also to understand that the decision-making tendencies and strategies that work for us, might not work for everyone else in our personal and professional lives. Knowing our own spiritual architecture, and the spiritual architecture of those around us, is a recipe for compassion.

Through the stories she tells, Kamla Kapur breathes life into the legends of great mystics and the poetry of saints. I first encountered her work some years ago through reading her wonderful book, The Singing Guru. Here, she beautifully reimagines the tales of the great North Indian saint, and first Guru of the Sikhs, Baba Nanak.
I must say, listening to her speak is as lovely as reading her evocative style of storytelling! In this episode of the podcast, we discuss her work, the transcendent legacy of Guru Nanak, and the beautiful Sikh spirit which blossomed forth from his life.
Kamla Kapur is an author, playwright, and poet with multiple critically acclaimed books published in the USA and India. To learn more, visit her website at https://www.kamlakkapur.com/

Robert Thurman, who we affectionately call Tenzin Bob, is simply a treasure. Time Magazine aptly described him as a "larger than life scholar-activist destined to convey the Dharma, the precious teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha, from Asia to America.”
Bob's life story is extraordinary and in this episode of the podcast, he takes us through many of its amazing stories. This two-hour episode is filled with gems of wisdom, hilarious moments, and the unique stream of wisdom that flows through him like a vital spring!
Bob is one of the world's leading scholars and translators of Tibetan Buddhism. In 1962 he was the first Westerner to be ordained by his Holiness the Dalai Lama. In 1997 Bob was named one of Time Magazine’s 25 Most Influential Americans. He co-founded Tibet House US with Tenzin Tethong, Richard Gere, and Philip Glass, a non-profit organization based in New York City and dedicated to the preservation and renaissance of Tibetan culture.
Inspired by his longtime good friend His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Bob takes us along with him into an expanded vision of the world through the prism of Tibetan Buddhism. He shares with us the sense of refuge in the Dharma, which unfailingly helps us clear away the shrouds of fear and confusion, sustains us with the cheerfulness of an enriched present, and opens a door to a path of realistic hope for a peaceful, kind, and wise future.
This special episode is sponsored by Envision 2021. A very special New Year's Virtual Retreat produced by Menla, and a benefit for Tibet House US. Wasfia Nazreen is a powerhouse. Her story is anything but ordinary, and life-accomplishments already the stuff of legends. I had such a great time chatting with Wasfia on this podcast and our two-hour conversation takes you on a journey through the peaks and valleys of her amazing life (which I sense is only getting started!).
Wasfia is a human-rights activist, educator, mountaineer, and so much more. As a visionary campaign to celebrate and uplift the women of her native country, Bangladesh, Wasfia became the first Bangladeshi, and first Bengali, to climb the Seven Summits - aka the highest mountains of every continent!
She is the ONLY woman to be named both a National Geographic Explorer & Adventurer.
Her passion has always been driven by causes close to her heart — all of which are grounded in a strong foundation of meditation and self-realization practices. She has been blessed to learn from and become close friends with some of the greatest spiritual teachers on the planet, including His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, and His Holiness the 17th Karmapa.
Listen in on a fascinating life story, from childhood abandonment trauma that led not to despair but instead to a life built on fierce independence, drive, and loving compassion. Forging her own path far away from the arranged marriages and status quo for women in her country, Wasfia chose instead to look fear square in the eye, to fall asleep to the lullaby of avalanches, and to keep climbing. "That mountain gives you an excuse to give up every day," she says of Everest. Thankfully for us, she did no such thing.
Visit Wasfia's official website here and definitely watch the epic short documentary, 'Wasfia', produced by Apple, Inc. and presented by National Geographic.

Here's what happens when two world-renowned yoga instructors get together to talk shop. Jai Dev chats with Ashleigh Sergeant in this final "Live from Envision Festival" episode. Ashleigh is the Director of Yoga & Movement at Envision, head of yoga content at Gaia.com and, and a yoga instructor who now calls Costa Rica home.
The conversation winds its way around the world of yoga, like a vine, getting into the cracks and crevices, finding openings for expansion as well as barriers to growth. There's the cacophony of nature, the simplicity of the profound, staying centered amidst chaos, narcissism, discipline, dogma, joy, and what we see when we point at the moon. It's just your average everyday jungle meditation on what it means to seek a teacher, to be a teacher, and to not need a teacher. It might be best if you just listen.

In the next installment of our "Live at Envision " series, meet one of the co-creators of the event, (and one of the most fun and interesting people I had the pleasure of spending time with that whole week), Sarah Wu.
If you were to call Sarah an herbalist you wouldn't be wrong. However, as you'll hear in this episode, it goes much deeper than that!
Even if you wouldn't consider yourself a plant-lover per se, listening to Sarah discuss her ever-evolving relationship with the plant world will at least have you looking at plant life through a new lens.
Defining herbalism as an art, science, craft and practice, Sarah brings plants into deep focus and encourages viewing the plants around you in ways you might not have considered. It's not only how you experience a plant, but how does a plant experience you? What kind of dialogue takes place and what kind of symbiotic relationship is forged between humans and plants? This podcast is perfect for the "herb nerds" out there, and for anyone else who wants in on the, "What's your favorite herb?" conversation. Enjoy the episode!
Check out the month long Permaculture Design Certification training Sarah and her colleagues are doing this June! They are now accepting applications to enroll: https://www.atitlanorganics.com/php

In the latest installment of our 'Live at Envision Festival' series, Jai Dev sits down with Envision founder and ecological visionary, Stephen Brooks. This conversation starts with a central theme that is close to both Stephen and Jai Dev's heart...the mystic legacy of the Grateful Dead! From there, the conversation winds its way through the Costa Rican jungle to the interrelatedness of all things. You may have seen Stephen's groundbreaking work featured in the popular new Netflix Original, 'Down To Earth with Zac Efron'. Stephen's passion for life, and for his work is totally infectious, and you'll feel that in this episode. Seeking more sustainable ways to live our daily lives without compromising quality of life, he has brought his visions to fruition.
With over decades of experience working on the creation of thriving ecological communities, beginning with The Punta Mona Center for Regenerative Design and Botanical Studies in Costa Rica, Stephen has become a world leader in tropical permaculture. Connection is the current running through everything Stephen has created - connection to the earth, the plants, the music, and each other. Enjoy! -
It seems like a lifetime ago that I sat down for this inspiring conversation with Rachel Brathen. You may know Rachel as Yoga Girl, her massively popular online brand. While we had briefly met once before, what you're about to hear was the first real conversation the two of us had together...and I enjoyed it so much. While Rachel is a world-renowned teacher, she's down-to-earth, genuine, and wonderfully warm-hearted. This episode was recorded in the Costa Rican jungle at the Envision Festival. We sat down in our Life-Force Academy Lounge with an intimate audience and talked about her inspiring life journey, the joys and challenges of motherhood, family life, her fave shows :-) and much more. The life story of Marques Wyatt flows with a certain sense of destiny. Around every turn, there seems to be some guide or signpost revealing the way forward. What force could truly architect the design of our lives? His story, as with all our stories, begs that question. In the world of House Music, Marques is iconic...a legendary DJ who was among the very first to rock the dance floors in the Los Angeles House scene. His life's history is intertwined with the history of House. On a summer evening in July, the two of us sat down on my back porch and recorded this conversation. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. This conversation confirmed to me what I had already suspected: Trevor Hall is a genuinely beautiful brother with a big heart and a fellow journeyer on the path. Over the last many years his career as an artist, musician, and songwriter has soared to great success with huge streaming numbers and sold-out tours. In this episode, we get to hear the story behind it all...and an incredible story it is!
From growing up on the coastal shores of South Carolina, to opening a tour for the legendary Reggae band, Steel Pulse (at the age of 17!), to repeatedly traveling to India and immersing himself in her wondrous mysticism, I can say that I enjoyed every moment of this episode. It’s definitely one of my favorites.

What is a yogic perspective on the Black Lives Matter movement, and the struggle for justice for black, indigenous, and all people of color? How and where does racism exist within yoga communities, and its industries? These are some of the tough questions I explore with my wonderful guest, Vedya Amrita Bethel. Vedya Amrita is a Kundalini Yoga teacher and healer living in New York City. Her strong, wise, and radiant energy transmits beautifully in our spirited and real discussion about her life, race in America, and race in the yoga community. This is a time when all of us will benefit from gaining a deeper understanding of racism, superiority complexes, and how these very things are built into the very infrastructure of our societies and thus the mind’s subconscious patterns. This is a time of great transformation. Either we get on the train or it will drag us along anyways. It’s a Love movement, a Zion train. Sunn m'Cheaux is gifted. He is an activist, artist, and the first and only Gullah language instructor at Harvard University. He has an intelligence and spirit about him that connects and penetrates. I remember seeing him perform his poetry almost twenty years ago and being extremely impressed by his artistry, heart, and command. That soulful intelligence and spirited conviction is most definitely apparent today. In this episode, Sunn and I reminisce a bit about our time together working as artists in Charleston, SC, before jumping into the rich culture of the Gullah Geechee people, race in America, Black Lives Matter and Sunn's important work as a teacher of his native language at Harvard.
