This episode is an invitation to slow down and listenâto the rhythms of your body, the patterns of your stress, and the deeper stories your health may be telling.
At the heart of it all is the HPA axis: the intricate communication system between your brain and adrenal glands that helps regulate everything from hormones to immunity to digestion. When life moves fast, stress stacks up, and we keep pushing through, this delicate system can fall out of syncâleading to burnout, chronic symptoms, and a body that feels like itâs constantly on edge.
This week we explore:
What the HPA axis is and why it matters for your whole-body healthHow chronic stressâemotional, chemical, and environmentalâdisrupts balanceWhy conditions like thyroid issues, autoimmune flare-ups, and gut imbalances often trace back to HPA dysfunctionWhat it means to reset the stress response, and how healing happens when we work with the body, not against itâš Youâll also receive simple insights to help you tune into your bodyâs signals and begin the gentle work of restorationâfrom the inside out.
Whether youâre navigating persistent symptoms, burnout, or just seeking a deeper understanding of how stress affects your health, this episode offers a compassionate approach to back to balance.

This episode is a quiet invitation to rethink what healing really meansâand to re-imagine how we care for our bodies, our boundaries, and ourselves.
So often, the way we move through life mirrors the way we treat our bodies. The stress we ignore, the signals we silence, the moments we push throughâtheyâre not just physical, theyâre emotional, relational, and deeply human.
Together, we unpack the myth of the âone right wayâ to heal and introduce three archetypes that show up on the healing journey:
The Overachiever, who pushes through pain in the name of productivityThe Avoider, who numbs or detaches to keep discomfort at bayThe Aligned Healer, who learns to stay present, curious, and compassionateWe talk about how each of these patterns can show upânot just in health, but in work, relationships, and daily life. And more importantly, we share how to begin shifting toward a more connected, sustainable way of being.
âš Youâll also get access to gentle journaling prompts designed to help you tune into your bodyâs wisdom and begin building a relationship rooted in care, not control.
Whether youâre at the beginning of your healing path or simply needing a soft place to land, this episode is here to remind you: healing isnât about fixing yourself. Itâs about coming home to yourself.

In this heartfelt and illuminating episode, we sit down to explore something so many of us wrestle with, often in silenceâhow we speak to ourselves when weâre hurting, struggling, or falling short of our own expectations. This conversation is a gentle unraveling of the myth that being hard on ourselves makes us stronger.
Drawing from both personal experience and science-backed insight, this episode opens up space for a deeper kind of growthâone rooted in kindness, not criticism. We reflect on their own journeys with self-compassion, the traps of perfectionism, and the quiet ways self-judgment wears down our resilience. Together, let's explore why softening our inner voice isnât weakness, but a profound act of strength.
This episode is for anyone whoâs tired of their own inner critic, anyone craving a more peaceful relationship with themselves, or anyone simply needing permission to be human. May it meet you where you are and remind you that the path to becoming more isnât paved with shameâbut with softness, patience, and the kind of grace we all deserve.

In this tender and deeply human episode, we sit down in the quiet anticipation of late pregnancy, Hillary at 38 weeks, and open a soft and spacious conversation about what it really means to prepare for birth. This isnât a checklist or a polished guide, itâs an honest reflection on the inner landscape of approaching labour, and the emotional, physical, and spiritual preparation it calls for.
We speak about choosing a home birth, not as a rigid plan, but as a preference held gently, with full acceptance that birth has its own wisdom. Hillary shares how past medical trauma shaped her relationship with hospitals and informed her choice for where she feels most safe and supported. But more than that, we talk about the power of knowing yourself, and how preparing for birth becomes an act of deep self-connection. Thereâs breathwork, movement, playlists, and practical tools chosen not to control the process, but to stay present in it.
We gently unpick the pressure many birthing people feel to do it ârightâ to glow through pregnancy, to birth perfectly, to bond instantly and offer a big compassionate exhale. Itâs okay if things donât go to plan. Itâs okay if love takes time. Itâs okay to not be okay. We talk about navigating fear, holding space for postnatal mental health, and remembering that birth is not just a medical eventâitâs a rite of passage. And it doesnât need to be perfect to be sacred.
This episode is for anyone moving towards birth, reflecting on their own story, or simply wanting to feel a little more seen in this season of change. May it remind you that youâre not alone, that thereâs no such thing as failing at birth, and that the messy, magical in-between is where the real becoming happens.

This week, weâre getting right into the guts of what makes relationships truly work, especially when it feels like you and your partner are talking past each other. Weâre unpacking Attachment Styles, Love Languages, and Core Valuesâand how understanding these fundamental elements can transform the way you connect and support each other.
Hereâs What Weâre Covering:
Attachment Styles: Whether youâre secure, anxious, avoidant, or a mixed bagâunderstanding your attachment style (and your partnerâs) is like having a roadmap for connection. It gives you clarity around why you react the way you do and why your partner responds the way they do.Love Languages: Itâs not just about figuring out what you needâitâs about truly getting why your partnerâs love feels different from yours. And how you can learn to speak their language without losing yourself in the process.Core Values: This was a real eye-opener for us. What happens when your deepest values clash with your partnerâs? How do you honour both without feeling like youâre sacrificing who you are? This part is all about learning to appreciate and even celebrate your differences.
We all just want to feel understood and connected. When you finally understand why your partner shows love the way they doâor why you react a certain wayâitâs like having a lightbulb moment. Suddenly, youâre responding rather than reacting. Youâre building safety, connection, and trust. And honestly, it feels bloody amazing.đ§ Listen to the full episode to unlock your own blueprint for connection.

Have you ever walked into a room and just felt⊠calm? Like your whole body relaxes because you feel safe with the person youâre with? Or maybe the opposite â youâve walked into a stressful situation and instantly felt your heart rate spike and your chest tighten. Thatâs not just in your head â thatâs co-regulation at work.
In this episode, we're getting real about how our nervous systems are wired to sync up with the people around us. From calming a fussy baby with a hug to feeling grounded in the presence of someone you trust, co-regulation is a built-in, biological process that helps us feel connected and balanced.
Weâll unpack:
- Why you feel calmer (or more stressed) around certain people
- How co-regulation starts in infancy and shapes how you handle stress today
- Why you donât have to âfix yourselfâ â sometimes you just need connection
- Simple ways to co-regulate with your partner, kids, and friends
- The science behind mirror neurons, oxytocin (the love hormone), and your vagus nerveThis episode is all about understanding why connection matters â and how you can create more safety and calm in your relationships. Letâs be real â apologizing is hard. Saying "sorry" isnât just about admitting you were wrong; itâs about repairing trust and showing the people you care about that they matter more than your pride. In this episode, weâre getting personal about why apologizing feels so uncomfortable and how to move past that discomfort to make a real, meaningful connection.
Hilary and Jaxson open up about their own struggles with apologizing â the defensiveness, the awkwardness, and that gut reaction to say, "But I didnât mean it!" They dive into the common mistakes we all make when trying to apologize (like deflecting, making excuses, or offering half-hearted "fine, I'm sorry" moments) â and why those approaches just donât work.
But here's the good news: thereâs a simple but powerful way to get it right. Enter the "Sorry Sandwich" â a practical, step-by-step way to take ownership of your actions, express genuine regret, and commit to doing better. This episode is honest, relatable, and packed with insights that will help you show up differently in your relationships â whether itâs with your partner, your friends, or even at work.

In this episode, weâre diving deep into the concept of the window of toleranceâa term coined by Dr. Dan Siegel that describes the optimal range of emotional and physiological arousal where you can function, learn, and grow. Itâs that balanced state where you feel calm, focused, and capable of handling lifeâs ups and downs without tipping into overwhelm or shutdown.
But hereâs the thing: no two people have the same window of tolerance. Itâs shaped by your history, your body, and your experiencesâboth the good and the difficult. If youâve dealt with chronic stress, trauma, or illness, your window of tolerance may be smaller, making it harder to stay regulated when life throws challenges your way.
One of the most powerful realizations we explore is that your nervous system often mistakes familiarity for safety. If youâve lived in chaos or high-stress environments, your body might feel most âcomfortableâ in that stateâeven if itâs not actually helping you grow. Expanding your window of tolerance isnât just about feeling better; itâs about retraining your body to recognize calm and balance as safe. We talk about why small, incremental changes are keyâbecause just like building physical strength, you donât start with a 100kg squat. Itâs about introducing manageable shifts that your nervous system can integrate without triggering a stress response.
We also get into the importance of vagal toneâthe strength and responsiveness of your vagus nerve, which is critical for nervous system regulation. We share practical tools to support this, like breathwork, somatic therapy, and co-regulation with safe, attuned people. The goal isnât to avoid stress altogetherâitâs to build the capacity to stay present and responsive when it happens. This conversation is about building trust with your body and nervous system, so you can move through life with more ease, flexibility, and resilience.
Tune in and learn how to stretch your window of tolerance in a way that feels supportive, not overwhelming.

Hilaryâs pregnancy has been a journey of surrenderâletting go of control, embracing change, and redefining what it means to care for herself. Pregnancy doesnât wait for you to be ready; it moves forward, shifting your body, your emotions, and your sense of self in ways you never expected.
At first, the biggest worry seemed smallâgrieving a wardrobe that no longer fit. But when nausea and exhaustion took over, priorities shifted. The first trimester was a crash course in surrender, a reminder that productivity and achievement were no longer the metrics of worth. Instead, it became about listening to her body, slowing down, and allowing herself to be supported.
This season has been a deep practice in presenceâlearning to notice the small, fleeting moments of connection. Itâs also been an awakening to how deeply ingrained old patterns are. The need to push through, to perform, to be "capable" at all costs. But pregnancy demanded something different: rest, nourishment, and trust.
Through it all, Hilary realized something profoundâshe was willing to prioritize herself for her baby, but why had she never felt just as worthy on her own? This shift in perspective, this unraveling of old narratives, is the real work of transformation. And it extends far beyond pregnancy.
Motherhood begins long before birth. It starts in the quiet moments of self-reflection, in the deep questioning of what kind of presence you want to bring into your life and your relationships. Who do you want to be as a parent? What patterns do you want to change? How do you want to show up, not just for your child, but for yourself?
Pregnancy is more than physical changeâitâs a portal into a new way of being. It asks you to meet yourself in a deeper way than ever before. To surrender. To soften. To trust. And in doing so, to find a version of yourself that was always waiting to be uncovered.
đ§ Listen now and step into the deep transformation of Hilaryâs pregnancy journey.

Have you ever reacted to a situation in a way that felt completely out of proportion to what was happening? Maybe a small comment from a friend left you feeling rejected, or an unexpected sound sent your heart racing. These reactions are called triggers, and they often stem from unprocessed past experiences stored in your body.
In this episode, we dive deep into the neurology of triggersâwhy they happen, how your nervous system responds, and how past emotions resurface in the present. Weâll explore how your brain activates fight, flight, freeze, or shutdown without you even realizing it, and how these reactions can shape your relationships, decision-making, and emotional well-being.
But hereâs the good news: You are not powerless. By understanding your bodyâs responses, you can start recognizing triggers, self-regulate in real-time, and even rewire your reactions to feel safer and more grounded.
We break down how your brain and nervous system create automatic responses to stress, why your past experiences shape your reactions today, and the role of the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex in triggering responses. We also explore the importance of co-regulation and self-soothing in healing, as well as practical techniques to move through a trigger instead of getting stuck in it.
By the end of this episode, youâll have tools to identify and work through your triggers, rather than feeling controlled by them.
Triggers are body-based, not just mental. They are stored emotional experiences that resurface when something in the present reminds your nervous system of the past. Your survival brain overrides logical thinking. When triggered, the amygdala takes over, shutting down your ability to rationalize and react calmly. Healing happens when you sit with your triggers. Instead of avoiding or suppressing them, learning to self-soothe, regulate, and reprocess can help you move through emotional reactions with more ease.
We also mention Neuroemotional Technique (NET) & Somatic Therapy to understand how emotions are stored in the body, as well as EMDR Therapy for reprocessing past traumatic experiences. You'll also learn about Cyclic Sighing & Breathwork, powerful techniques to regulate your nervous system in the moment.
Have you noticed your own triggers? What techniques help you self-regulate? Liste

Welcome back to The Luminous Body Podcast! This week, weâre having a real conversation about why we react the way we doâthose moments when we feel stuck in stress, overwhelmed, or totally shut down. If youâve ever wondered why you keep falling into the same patterns, why some things feel so hard to move through, or why certain situations trigger a response that feels beyond your controlâthis episode is for you.
We break down what nervous system regulation really meansânot just staying calm, but being able to move between activation and relaxation without getting stuck. Whether you tend to live in fight-or-flight mode (always on edge, anxious, or wired) or you find yourself shutting down, zoning out, or feeling disconnected, thereâs a reason for it. And more importantlyâthereâs a way forward.
One of the biggest takeaways? Your nervous system isnât failing youâitâs protecting you. Every response you have, from panic to numbness, is your body trying to keep you safe the best way it knows how. The key is learning to work with your body instead of against it. When you start to understand your own patterns, things shift. You move from feeling stuck to feeling in control.
We also talk about how chronic stress impacts your body, emotions, and relationshipsâand how different people experience dysregulation in totally different ways. (If youâve ever clashed with a partner or loved one during stress, this might explain why). Understanding this doesnât just help youâit helps you build better relationships and show up in a way that feels good.
Next week, weâre diving into practical ways to regulate your nervous system so you can feel more grounded, present, and in charge of your responses. But for now, start by noticingâwhere do you get stuck? What are your patterns? Awareness is the first step to change.
If this resonated with you, weâd love to hear from you! Share your thoughts, check out past episodes, and find us on Instagram. See you next week! đ§âš

Welcome back to another episode! In todayâs episode, we talk about the fascinating ways the nervous system catalogs every experience to keep you safe. From your childhood to adulthood, every memoryâwhether of safety or dangerâis stored and used to inform your responses in the present.
We explore examples of how sensory information, like a familiar smell or sound, can unconsciously trigger old survival patterns. These triggers often feel out of our control because theyâre deeply rooted in our subconscious and nervous system. Youâll learn why these responses are not your faultâtheyâre your bodyâs way of keeping you alive.
One of the highlights of this discussion is how formative experiences, especially from childhood, shape lifelong patterns of survival. We share how recognizing these patterns and understanding their origin can help you move toward healing and growth.
We also discuss the influence of inherited traumaâhow generational experiences can impact your nervous system today. By connecting the dots between your own experiences, your ancestry, and your environment, you can begin to build a framework for healing.
Finally, we offer insights into reframing your responses with curiosity and self-compassion. Healing isnât about perfection; itâs about understanding and working with the incredible systems within you to create a life that feels safe, balanced, and fulfilling.
Stay tuned as we wrap up the episode with a sneak peek at next weekâs topic: triggersâwhat they are, how they show up, and actionable steps to move through them.
Thank you for joining us in this exploration of the mind and body. Remember, your nervous system is always working for you. Healing begins with awareness, compassion, and small, intentional steps.

In this episode, weâre having a laid-back yet eye-opening conversation about the nervous system and how it affects everything in our lives, from how we feel to how we physically react. We start by exploring the parasympathetic nervous system, which becomes most active when we feel safe. When weâre not facing an immediate threat, our body can shift into healing mode, focusing on digestion, replenishment, and relaxation. We break down the idea of âturning on the parasympathetic tap,â ensuring the body has the resources it needs for recovery. Healing isnât just physicalâit also involves emotional processing, creating better connections with others, and feeling more in tune with our environment.
We also talk about how our nervous systems communicate with one another through co-regulation. Have you ever walked into a room and instantly felt the mood shift? Thatâs the power of nervous system interaction. But, when in a parasympathetic state, we can connect in a truly healing way, restoring energy, and regenerating vital resources.
On the flip side, we explore the sympathetic nervous systemâthe âfight, flight, or freezeâ response that helps us react to threats. While this system is essential for survival, we discuss how modern-day stressorsâemotional and physicalâcan keep us stuck in this heightened state, leaving us constantly on edge. We highlight how prolonged stress can create a negative feedback loop, reinforcing the need to stay alert and primed for danger.
Throughout this episode, we provide a foundation to better understand your nervous systemâs functions, helping you recognize when it's in survival mode and how to bring it back to a state of balance. And, a key takeawayâyour body is always working for you, doing its best to protect you and keep you safe.
Join us for this insightful conversation as we start to unravel the complexities of our nervous system, and rememberâyour body isnât your enemy, itâs your ally in keeping you safe.

In last week's episode, we touched on the power of intention and goal setting. This week, we're inviting you to dream bigger, envision bolder, and manifest your desires with clarity and purpose. In todayâs episode, weâre talking about how you can create a solid blueprint for manifesting your dreams in 2025, with a focus on turning your intentions into real, tangible results.
We begin by exploring the magic of SMART goalsâa simple yet powerful framework that can help you map out your goals for the year. Weâll break down the five key components: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Timely, and show you why these are the building blocks for your success.
Itâs not just about setting goalsâitâs about crafting a vision that truly aligns with your soul's deepest desires. Weâll guide you through the process of making sure your goals are meaningful and connected to your long-term vision, creating a plan that speaks to your highest potential.
Writing down your dreams and goals at the beginning of the year isnât just a ritualâitâs a powerful act of commitment to yourself. Weâll discuss how this practice helps you stay grounded, even when lifeâs challenges arise, and keeps you aligned with your vision through the ebb and flow of the journey.
Another key aspect of manifestation is breaking down your larger goals into smaller, actionable steps. Weâll explore how to avoid overwhelm by making your big dreams feel achievable, step by step. This allows you to focus on the present moment while staying connected to the bigger picture of where youâre headed.
Todayâs episode is about building a blueprint for your futureâone thatâs rooted in intention, action, and self-compassion. Manifesting your dreams isnât about perfection; itâs about the alignment between your actions and your highest vision for yourself. SMART goals give you a roadmap, but remember, itâs the energy you put into them and the growth you experience along the way that truly matters.

In our first episode of 2025, we invite you to join us as we explore a more grounded, compassionate approach to goal-settingâone that honors the wisdom of our bodies and nervous systems. Instead of falling into the trap of the typical âNew year, new meâ mindset, we discuss how we can create sustainable, soul-nourishing change that flows with our bodyâs natural rhythm. We acknowledge the gap between the inspiration the new year brings and the reality of what our bodies are truly capable of, and we offer a mindful way to bridge that gap with kindness and self-compassion.
Together, we explore how starting small with intentional, achievable goalsârooted in self-compassion helps us build the momentum needed for lasting change, all while honoring our bodyâs capacity. We share the power of setting intentions based on how we want to feel, rather than what we feel we need to prove. This becomes the foundation of a heart-centered approach to personal growth, one that allows us to grow and evolve without overwhelming ourselves.
Through personal stories and practices, we talk about the magic of embodying our intentions authentically, and why support, whether through therapy, body work, or community, plays a crucial role in making our dreams a reality. We discuss how showing up for ourselves, even when it feels uncomfortable, creates a safe space for transformation.
We believe real change happens when we honor ourselves, and this episode is an invitation for all of us to reflect on our deepest desires, set intentions that reflect our highest selves, and create a year filled with sustainable growth, compassion, and transformation.

In this episode, we talk openly about the challenges of navigating the holiday season and the importance of setting boundaries to protect our well-being. Jaxson shares his personal experience with socially maskingâhow it may seem like he's enjoying himself on the outside, but on the inside, he's just surviving. He opens up about how having someone like Hillary, who understands his needs and helps him stay grounded, has made all the difference. We discuss the power of setting boundaries in advance and how crafting thoughtful responses to invitations can help honor both our own needs and the people we care about. Itâs not about being unavailableâitâs about taking care of ourselves so we can be present when it matters most.
The holiday season can be overwhelming, often leading to stress and emotional burnout. To navigate this, maintaining a routine is essential for staying grounded, even amidst the chaos. Incorporating simple movement like walks or yoga, along with mindful food choices, can help regulate both your body and emotions. Setting clear boundaries around food, drink, and social situations can prevent overindulgence and help maintain emotional balance. Lastly, creating space for moments of calm, such as taking brief breaks for reflection or solitude, can help you reset and reconnect with your intentions during the hustle of the holidays.
For those who socially "mask," the holiday season can feel particularly overwhelming, even when outwardly appearing to enjoy themselves. Setting clear boundaries with the help of a trusted ally and scripting responses to avoid overcommitment can ease the pressure of social events. Prioritizing self-care, maintaining limits, and practicing compassion for yourself during emotional moments are vital to staying grounded. True connection comes from authenticity, and showing up as your real self fosters more meaningful relationships. As the year ends, reflecting on personal growth and lessons learned can help you enter the new year with renewed clarity and well-being.
This week, weâre taking a short break for two weeks and will return in mid-January. We are incredibly grateful for your support and are excited to return in 2025, ready to continue our journey of growth and connection. Take a moment for yourself, set boundaries with love, and let this episode inspire you to approach the holi

Magnesium is one of the most critical micronutrients required for our bodies to function: itâs used in over 300 biochemical reactions, from muscle and nerve function, to regulation of blood pressure and glucose. Whilst magnesium can be obtained through dietary intake, most people would benefit from supporting their natural levels with supplementation, with a significant proportion of the population being deficient. But not every supplement is created equal!
Have you ever walked down the vitamins aisle in the supermarket, and been totally overwhelmed by the amount of choice you had? We get it - it can be so confusing to know which ones are going to have the most benefit for you! There are over 11 different types of magnesium supplements alone. Without having to think about it, you are automatically breathing in and out every single second of your life. Unlike other fundamental necessities, such as eating and drinking, breathing is something that is unconsciously performed by the body constantly, without a need for conscious action. But unlike other unconscious functions (like our heartbeat), we do have the power to influence our breathing.
Thereâs a reason that they say something is âas natural as breathingâ. Without even realising it (or even spending much effort on it!), we breathe in and out up to almost 30,000 times a day! But because it comes so naturally to us, we can sometimes underestimate and even dismiss the power of this incredible tool at our disposal. So in this weekâs episode of the podcast, weâre making the unconscious conscious, and harnessing the full spectrum of our breathing ability. Because breathing is so critical for our survival, itâs linked with hundreds of other physiological functions in our bodies (including some you might never have even considered!). Weâre breaking down the difference that conscious breathing has on your body, and how you can use it to control a multitude of systems, from heart rate, to cortisol levels, and even mental focus. Emotional health relies just as heavily on our breathing too - if you think about your breathing when youâre stressed vs when youâre happy, thereâs a radical difference between the two! With breathwork, we can reverse engineer this connection and biohack our neurological functions to process complex and deep-rooted emotions, and even transcend to completely different levels of consciousness that would otherwise be inaccessible to us! Youâll never think about breathing in the same way, and weâll help you unlock the full potential of this tool that each and every single one of us holds inside.
