Angie’s top tip when it comes to having an organized home during Summer break is to include your kids by turning it into a game, or by involving them in the decluttering process and allowing them to make the decisions as to what to keep, donate or toss.Manageable strategies you can employ to stay on top of the mess, such as doing a quick clear up every night before bed, and even setting a timer to keep yourself focused. The importance of instilling responsibility in your children, and ways to incentivise them to help keep the house organized. Angie’s advice regarding the things that you might be doing wrong that could be contributing to chaos and clutter in your home, including introducing a toy rotation and delegating the toys to one area of the house so they don’t take over your whole home.To connect with Angie, you can access the below resources:

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker recently sparked controversy following his commencement speech at a private girls school a few weeks ago, where he encouraged the women to embrace their roles as “homemakers”. Today on The Motherhood Kit, Yamel is joined by Dr. Laura Tillman and together they dive deep on this current topic of identity beyond motherhood.
Together, Laura and Yamel discuss the impact of Butker’s words, societal norms, and the importance of breaking down these limiting views of women’s roles. They also share personal stories of times when we felt identified solely by our role as mothers, and how they navigated those experiences to reclaim their broader identities, as well as sharing valuable strategies that you can use to prioritise your mental wellbeing, especially in a society that tends to overlook our value beyond mothering.

Butker’s speech and how he diminished women to a singular role of being “home-makers”, when they are capable of so much more. The importance of bringing curiosity to these matters to understand the root of perspectives like Butker’s, and the social norms that play into these. The importance of moms maintaining and nurturing their identities beyond that of being a mother, not just for their own fulfilment but also to enable them to be the best versions of themselves for their children. Experiences from their own lives where they have felt societal pressures to conform to the sole identity of ‘mother’ and how they dealt with this. How societal expectations can be isolating, and how the narrative that women should find complete fulfilment solely in domestic roles can be detrimental.Laura’s advice for moms who might be feeling the pressure of these social expectations to communicate with their support system and surrounding themselves with those who champion their identities both inside and outside of mothering. To connect with Dr. Laura Tillman click here

Why are we so quick to talk about the negative sides of motherhood and yet hold back on sharing the many beautiful sides of the experience?
Today on the podcast, Yamel is diving into the topic of the taboo of enjoying motherhood. You too may have noticed a trend in people sharing negative reflections of motherhood, and of people having adverse reactions to those online or in real life who are sharing the joys of their journey. In this episode, Yamel explores this increasing trend, societal expectations that might be playing into this, and the importance of cherishing the good times so that we can celebrate the joys of raising our children, as well as holding space for the harder moments too.

Her observations that online creators who are sharing the joys of motherhood often receive a negative reception, which was a sentiment mirrored in the article ‘It’s Become A Taboo To Admit You Enjoy Motherhood” The various factors playing into this increasing trend including not wanting to be seen as gloating or showing off and, as professor Esther Dermott points out in the article above, the fact that it’s often the negative and worrisome sides of motherhood that parents all have in common, whereas the positive perspectives are often more individual. Societal expectations surrounding motherhood that Yamel has observed and the way that these intersect with the unspoken joy of motherhood, because there is a pressure to portray a perfect image but then when you do, you can be vilified and judged for this. The importance of community, vulnerability and having a space to share the hard sides of motherhood, whilst also being able to portray a balanced and authentic view of your own experience, so that we as mothers can enjoy all the richness that this spectrum of experience brings. The power of reframing the negative into the positive; for example, for Yamel, she has the job of doing her girls’ hair in the morning and although it is a time-consuming job, she’s reframed the task into being a beautiful moment she can share with her daughters. To connect with Nikki, the TikTok creator Yamel mentions in this episode, click here

Welcome back to another episode of The Motherhood Kit. With mothers day approaching, today we are bringing you a rebroadcast of our popular Mothers Day episode from last year. I’ll be sharing the answers I got from the moms in my audience when I polled them on social media about what they really want for Mothers Day, and I’ll be sharing some thoughts from my own children about what mothers day means to them.
So, if you’re currently thinking about what you’d like this Mothers Day, this episode is for you - and it might also be one to share with your loved ones too to drop some hints!

In this episode, Yamel discusses:
● Mothers Day is the highest selling holiday for flowers and plants and also the busiest day of the year for restaurants and, whilst moms appreciate these gestures, there are often other things that they’d want even more (and some may surprise you!)
● From Yamel’s feedback, she deduced that what moms really want can be broken down into three themes:
- The gift of time - this could look like a day where they get some precious alone time or a day when everything's been sorted in advance for them so they don’t have to manage everyone else’s needs.
- Pampering - even if you don’t have a big budget, it can still be possible to make the mom in your life feel special and pampered. You could even involve the kids in creating some at-home treatments, or shop around for an offer that mom can enjoy at a later date.
- Well thought-out gifts - rather than running out last minute to grab a card and a rushed present, spend some time thinking about what the mom in your life would truly appreciate, to show her that you care.

The benefits of vaginal steaming, including it being an act of honouring yourself and connecting to the lineage of women who have been doing it throughout history, and also the benefits of steaming to postpartum women, due to how it can help the shrinking of the uterus after birth, and can help heal cuts and tears that might have occurred during birth. Cautions and things to consider when looking into vaginal steaming, including being careful the steam isn’t too hot to prevent burning, precautions to take if you are prone to yeast infections, and being aware about the blend of herbs used if you are allergic to any. Welcome to another episode of The Motherhood Kit Podcast where Yamel is joined by Gina Mundy, an attorney that specialises in childbirth cases. For over two decades, she has analysed the mistakes that are made during labor and delivery and, drawing on this knowledge, she has authored the bestselling book - “A Parent’s Guide To A Safer Childbirth” to help parents prevent these mistakes and have a healthy baby. This is based on her own experiences of cases, as well as her extensive research, meticulous analyzing and the dissecting of countless studies pertaining to childbirth. Rather than merely getting involved after the unfortunate mistake was made, Gina has taken a proactive approach by getting involved before childbirth.
