This pivotal experience ignited his passion for helping others discover their own purpose, a theme that resonates powerfully throughout the episode.

Our conversation highlights the importance of recognizing that each individual has inherent value and a unique role to play in the world, often linked to their personal stories and experiences.

As the discussion wraps up, JJ and I reflect on the journey from feeling like a victim of circumstances to emerging as a survivor who can serve others. This transformative process underscores the belief that every struggle can be a stepping stone toward a greater mission. JJ’s insights remind listeners that their past, including pain and hardship, can be harnessed to foster resilience and purpose in their lives.

The episode serves as an inspiring reminder that everyone has the capacity to impact the lives of others, and by exploring their stories, individuals can unlock the potential that lies within them, ready to be shared with the world.

  • Imagine grasping the essence of ethical leadership while nurturing a sense of humility. Rabbi Yonason Goldson joins me in unraveling this delicate balance through Jewish teachings, inviting us to carry the paradoxical notes of our significance and modesty in the universe. We navigate the virtues that bind us, fostering a culture of trust and productivity, particularly resonant for parents and individuals on their journeys of personal growth. Yonason's rich background in Jewish philosophy and ethics sheds light on creating vibrant, ethical cultures in both professional and personal spaces.

The digital era: a double-edged sword that can both connect us and keep us apart. Together, Yonasan and I reflect on the impact of the global pandemic, our craving for deep connections, and the role of technology as a bridge in our isolated times. Personal stories, including experiences from Israel, illustrate our shared need for reflection and connection. We tackle the pressing issue of technology addiction, the tug-of-war within our brains, and the discipline required to find balance amidst life's relentless choices, emphasizing the importance of intentionality in every swipe, click, and interaction.

In the final chapters, we draw inspiration from historical figures like Jonathan Edwards, exploring how our everyday choices could ripple through generations, shaping legacies and fostering resilience. The conversation turns towards civility, personal purpose, and the transient nature of existence, urging us to act intentionally and leave a lasting mark.

Join us for this episode as Yonason Goldson reminds us to embrace the fleeting nature of time while striving for a greatness that transcends our temporal journey.

  • When Amber Selking steps onto the field, she doesn't just see the game; she sees the potential for mental metamorphosis. This episode of the One Big Thing podcast is like sitting down with a dear friend who happens to be a whiz at applied sports psychology and understanding the intricate dance between mindset, performance, and faith. Amber's journey from the soccer fields of Notre Dame to a corporate career and back to the sports arena, armed with a Ph.D. and a bible, provides a striking backdrop for a conversation that entwines the discipline of athletes with the daily hurdles we all face.

As someone who has felt the sting of an ACL injury and the identity shifts that come with life's great upheavals, I've learned that resilience isn't just for the playing field—it's for parenting, business, and personal growth. Together with Amber, we discuss the unspoken challenges of mental health in a world where social media often blurs the lines between seeking help and seeking attention. We share stories, laugh about the messiness of family life, and explore the Mental Performance Playbook she devised to tackle emotional control—a skill that's not just for athletes but for everyone who's ever lost their cool when life threw a curveball.

This conversation isn't just about finding balance; it's about finding purpose in the chaos and joy in the journey. We touch on the importance of aligning actions with values, the transformative practice of incremental improvement, and the art of pressing pause to appreciate the present. If you're ready to reframe your thinking and level up your mental fitness, let this heart-to-heart with Dr. Amber Selking be your guide. We're peeling back the layers of mental health, performance, and personal fulfillment.
