Letâs end Heart Month with an empowering story from a stroke survivor, former beauty queen, principal of School District U-46, fantabulous mom and wife, and a lightning bolt of energy and positivity â Natalie Poli.
Natalie is living her dream â basking in the spotlight and cheers of the crowd, confidently sharing her grace and talent as a Chicago Bulls dancer. She cared for her health and stayed physically active, yet something unexpected changed her life.
She was only 29 when she suffered from a stroke. Luckily, Natalie got immediate medical help when a police officer recognized the symptoms of stroke when he got into Natalieâs home.
Natalieâs road to recovery from her heart surgery has been challenging. It all happened while she was pursuing a Masterâs Degree and caring for her nine-week-old and two-year-old children.
This experience awakened something inside Natalie. She made it her lifeâs purpose to educate, support, and inspire stroke survivors, their families, healthcare professionals, and organizations. She became the voice that tells you to listen to your body. She became the voice that created urgency for taking actionable steps to save lives.
Being crowned Mrs. Illinois and Mrs. Midwest International also gave Natalie a platform for heart health and stroke advocacy. Natalie further expanded her reach when she started a podcast called Stroke of Insight, where she interviewed individuals, families of survivors, and organizations to share their experiences and knowledge about the common enemy â stroke.

âAre you going off a script? You probably should.â
Man, that stung!
I heard this feedback from a friend eight episodes into The Ripple Effect Podcast, and my soul was obliterated. Self-doubt ate me up every time I hit record. I started overthinking every word before it came out of my mouth. As someone who just started threading the podcasting world, my infinitesimal confidence became nonexistent. It wasnât the most pleasant feeling.
If I let those words live rent-free in my head, I wouldnât be here talking (still no script, by the way) and pouring my heart out. Before I knew it, eight episodes became TEN SEASONS!
Itâs a far cry from those grand success stories, but relistening to the first few releases of The Ripple Effect Podcast made me realize there has been significant improvement. It may feel like youâve achieved nothing today or tomorrow, but look back to this day a few years later, and youâll see something to be proud of.
I started upping my game. I ditched Garage Band, my crappy equipment, and began investing in better gear. The amount of behind-the-scenes effort to ensure Ripplers get the most value out of each post is no joke, and of course, it comes with a cost.

So, whoâs our awe-inspiring guest?
Pam Rankel shares a deeply personal and inspiring story of overcoming tragedy, loss, and the journey to healing. Having faced unimaginable hardships, she recounts the pivotal moments of her life that turned pain into strength, transforming a story of sorrow into one of resilience.
Pam Rankel has experienced things that no one in this world deserves to. She survived s**ual abuse from a doctor in an unsupervised appointment and physical abuse from a person whoâs supposed to love and protect her â her husband. After freeing herself from this abusive relationship, she tried to dip her toe into the dating pool. Instead of finding the love she deserves, she experiences the anxiety-inducing feeling of being pursued by a dangerous stalker. Pam also has to endure the grief that comes with losing a son in labor and another son, Micheal, in an accident.
âIâve always wished I could have saved my own children, but I couldnât. Maybe, though, I could save someone elseâs,â Pam said.
Pam Rankel saved a young manâs life by donating her healthy kidney. The donee, Cole Derry, is the same age as her surviving son, Ryan.
Pamâs inspiring story was featured on several media platforms, such as the Vancouver Sun and Global News, and is in the talks for a film adaptation.
After all Pam has been through, she found her way back to joy, compassion, humor, and gratitude. She is now on a quest to help others with similar experiences overcome abuse, grief, addiction, and trauma through âA Course in Miraclesâ life coaching.
Pam is a real-life superhero, and Iâm so thankful to have met her. She has inspired me in so many ways, and I strongly believe that the world deserves to hear her story.
