Prepare to dive headfirst into the surreal and treacherous world of dreams with the 1984 sci-fi thriller, Dreamscape. 🌌🚂
Starring Dennis Quaid as Alex Gardner, a psychic on the run, this movie takes us on a mind-bending journey into the subconscious. When a government project aimed at entering and altering people's nightmares ropes him in, Alex must confront his own fears and a malevolent fellow psychic to save the day. With Kate Capshaw as the dedicated and intelligent Jane DeVries, the film weaves a tale of psychic abilities, shadowy government plots, and the power of dreams.
From the eerie corridors of a research facility to the heart-pounding chases on a dirt bike, Dreamscape delivers a unique blend of '80s cheese, action, and speculative fiction. The stakes skyrocket when the President of the United States, plagued by apocalyptic visions, becomes the target of an assassination plot within his own nightmares. Can Alex use his powers for good and prevent a national disaster? Or will the nightmares win?
Featuring an ensemble cast including Max von Sydow, Christopher Plummer, and even George Wendt, this film is a rollercoaster ride through a landscape where the line between reality and dreams is as thin as a thread. With a soundtrack that captures the ethereal essence of the dream world, Dreamscape is a forgotten gem that laid the groundwork for future dream-centric blockbusters.

🕰️ "The History of Time Travel: A Mockumentary Masterpiece?" 🕰️

Dive into the mockumentary that defies expectations and bends reality as we explore "The History of Time Travel," a film that challenges the very fabric of its genre. This isn't just a faux-documentary—it's a cleverly woven tapestry of time travel theory, family drama, and a constantly shifting narrative that will have you questioning what's real.

Ricky Kennedy's college film project presents a fictional story of a family's obsession with time travel, leading to world-altering consequences. As the tale unfolds, the documentary itself morphs, with subtle changes in interviews and backgrounds that signify alterations in the timeline. It's a film that doesn't just tell a story; it evolves with it.

Join Desmond McNeese and Scott Lifton as they dissect the layers of this indie gem. They'll tackle the paradoxes, the ethical dilemmas, and the mind-bending notion that the history you're watching is rewritten before your very eyes. 📜🔄

🎙 Listener Debate: Can a mockumentary hold its own against time travel epics with grander scales and budgets? Does the ingenuity of "The History of Time Travel" earn it a spot among the greats? Share your thoughts and unravel the temporal tapestry with us at [email protected].

Dune is a 1984 American epic space opera film written and directed by David Lynch and based on the 1965 Frank Herbert novel Dune. It was filmed at the Churubusco Studios in Mexico City. The soundtrack was composed by the rock band Toto, with a contribution from Brian Eno. Its large ensemble cast includes Kyle MacLachlan's film debut as young nobleman Paul Atreides, Patrick Stewart, Brad Dourif, Dean Stockwell, Virginia Madsen, José Ferrer, Sean Young, Sting, Linda Hunt, and Max von Sydow.

The setting is the distant future, chronicling the conflict between rival noble families as they battle for control of the extremely harsh desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune. The planet is the only source of the drug melange (spice), which allows prescience and is vital to space travel, making it the most essential and valuable commodity in the universe. Paul Atreides is the scion and heir of a powerful noble family, whose inheritance of control over Arrakis brings them into conflict with its former overlords, House Harkonnen. Paul is also possibly the Kwisatz Haderach, a messianic figure expected by the Bene Gesserit sisterhood.

After the novel's initial success, attempts to adapt Dune as a film began in 1971. A lengthy process of development followed throughout the 1970s, during which Arthur P. Jacobs, Alejandro Jodorowsky, and Ridley Scott unsuccessfully tried to bring their visions to the screen. In 1981, executive producer Dino De Laurentiis hired Lynch as director.

The film underperformed at the box office, grossing $30.9 million from a $40–42 million budget. At least four versions have been released worldwide. Lynch largely disowned the finished film and had his name removed or changed to pseudonyms. The film has developed a cult following,[4][5] but opinion varies between fans of the novel and fans of Lynch's films.[6]

🚀 "The Weeping Angels Take Manhattan: A Doctor Who Deep Dive" 🚀

Join Desmond McNeese and Scott Lifton as they venture into the beloved universe of "Doctor Who" with the critically acclaimed episode "Blink." This isn't your typical Time Lord adventure – it's an episode that's light on the Doctor but heavy on the time-bending thrills, featuring the eerie and iconic Weeping Angels.

Carrie Mulligan stars as Sally Sparrow in this Doctor Who-lite episode, where statues move in the blink of an eye and messages transcend time. We dissect the paradoxes, the bootstrap conundrums, and the surprisingly philosophical implications of being zapped back in time. 🗿⏳

As Desmond and Scott peel back the layers of this fan-favorite episode, they grapple with the ethical dilemmas posed by the show and question the effectiveness of DVD Easter eggs as a narrative device. From the haunting "Don't blink" warning to the peculiar time loop that ensnares every character, we explore how "Blink" stands out in the Whovian canon and why it's cited as one of the series' best despite its unusual detachment from the titular hero.

🎙 Listener Debate: Is it better to be sent back in time against your will or to face a more traditional demise? And does "Blink" truly deserve its place in the pantheon of great time travel stories? Email us your thoughts at [email protected] and join the temporal discussion.

We're diving into the 1980 romantic drama, "Somewhere in Time," where Christopher Reeve's quest for love transcends the bounds of time itself. 🕰️💔

Join us as we unravel a tale of hypnotic time travel, star-crossed lovers, and the enduring question of whether a pocket watch can truly loop through eternity. We witness Richard Collier (Reeve) fall for a portrait of Elise McKenna (Jane Seymour) and hypnotize himself back to 1912 in a desperate bid to turn fiction into reality. But is this love story a timeless classic or a period piece that's lost its luster?

From the perplexing paradoxes to the sweat-drenched attempts at time-hopping, we dissect the mechanics of self-hypnosis as a means of temporal travel and ponder the missed opportunities for a deeper dive into the time travel lore. 🌀

Despite its cult following and an annual pilgrimage of fans to the Grand Hotel, we ask the hard question: Does "Somewhere in Time" stand the test of time? And for those who've ever contemplated the lengths they'd go for love, we explore the romantic and tragic implications of a love that's both boundless and bound by time.

Prepare for a mix of critique, nostalgia, and a touch of the fantastical as we explore the highs, the lows, and the timeless (or time-lost) escapades of "Somewhere in Time." It's a time travel debate that might just have you questioning the power of a penny from the future. 💑🚫

  • Strap in for a whirlwind ride through the complex corridors of time with "Time Pop: The Time Travel Movie Podcast"! Prepare to be perplexed and entertained as we dissect a movie that's as ambitious in its storytelling as it is in its running time. "Maanaadu" isn't just a film; it's a marathon of action, drama, and a touch of the surreal that defies the norms of Western cinema. Our protagonist finds himself in a relentless time loop, with each reset bringing him closer to unraveling a deep political conspiracy. From the high-octane action sequences to the unexpected musical interludes, "Maanaadu" keeps viewers guessing. We're diving deep into the cultural nuances, the dizzying plot twists, and the sheer spectacle that has audiences both at home and abroad talking. Was it a stroke of genius or an overextended narrative? We're here to break it down.

Prepare to have your mind bent and your perception of time challenged in this latest episode of Sounds Awesome Patreon! As we dive deep into the enigma of time travel, we're left questioning: Is time travel a matter of fact or a matter of experience? Join us as we explore the concept of time as a construct and how movies like "Interstellar" play with our understanding of temporal mechanics.

Is it time dilation or time travel when gravity warps the flow of time, making minutes stretch into years? We grapple with the idea that time, influenced by gravity, can vary from one planet to another, and even within the realms of our dreams. Does this mean we're all time travelers each night as we slumber?

We also ponder over the practicalities of space travel – if a trip to Mars can make you younger by the standards of Earth time, what does that mean for our future as interplanetary travelers? And when characters in films like "Inception" live out decades in the span of a dream, are they truly journeying through time?

This episode isn't just a discussion; it's a philosophical journey that will leave you contemplating the very fabric of reality. So strap in, as we attempt to unravel the mysteries of the universe and our place within it, one second at a time.

“The original idea for Groundhog Day came to writer Danny Rubin in 1990. He had moved to Los Angeles to work as a screenwriter. While waiting in a theater for a film to start, he was reading Anne Rice's book The Vampire Lestat (1985).[3][4][5] Rubin began musing about vampiric immortality and what one would do with their time if it was limitless. He reasoned that vampires were like normal people who did not need to adhere to ordinary rules or moral boundaries.[4][5] He questioned if and when immortality would become boring or pointless, and how a person would change over time, especially if they were incapable of substantial change.[4] He singled out men he deemed to be in arrested development, who could not outlive their adolescence.”

    - Types letaiser - rottentomatoes.com

"Although GROUNDHOG DAY emphasizes that man desires not to be accountable for his deeds, it falsely implies that man can save himself from his sinful propensities. Even so, the film is humorous, lighthearted and fun though somewhat redundant. Thus, a discerning viewer will come out ahead as he learns “There is nothing new under the sun.”"

  • “Scrooged is a 1988 American Christmas fantasy comedy film directed by Richard Donner and written by Mitch Glazer and Michael O'Donoghue. Based on the 1843 novella A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Scrooged is a modern retelling that follows Bill Murray as Frank Cross, a cynical and selfish television executive who is visited by a succession of ghosts on Christmas Eve intent on helping him regain his Christmas spirit. The film also stars Karen Allen, John Forsythe, John Glover, Bobcat Goldthwait, Carol Kane, Robert Mitchum, Michael J. Pollard, and Alfre Woodard.”

    - Types - rottentomatoes.com

"A BAD MOMS CHRISTMAS is filled with funny, crowd-pleasing comical vignettes. Some of them are relatively clean and fun, but many of them contain at least some, and often plenty of, lewd, outrageous content. For example, there are two very suggestive dance scenes featuring a professional male dancer. Also, despite some surprisingly heartfelt moments revolving around the joys of family Christmas gatherings, the movie’s obscene, crude language and lewd situations overwhelm its good intentions and positive Christmas elements. So, MOVIEGUIDE® deems A BAD MOMS CHRISTMAS unacceptable for media-wise moviegoers and their families."
