As shared in part one and two of their story, J.E. Reich is a journalist, editor, survivor, and victim advocate. They shared their story on Something Was Wrong season 6, episodes 5 and 6, which aired on December 6th and December 13th of 2020. The episodes discuss the impact of the devastating 2018 shooting at The Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the impact the hate crime had on J.E.’s community. The three episodes also bring awareness to the related, horrific stalking J.E. and their family would be subjected to in the years following. However, at the time of the episodes’ release, J.E. and their family had received no justice for the unending harassment and death threats ‘The Caller’ executed over those years. The Broken Cycle Media team is extremely grateful J.E. was willing to return today to share more of their journey to seek justice, and about the start of their consequent healing process.

Jessica Willis-Fisher is a singer-songwriter living in Nashville, Tennessee. Her childhood as the eldest of twelve siblings and member of a family band was marked by great tumult and abuse, despite spending several years in the public eye. Alison Jones-Lockwood is a mother and victim advocate in Colorado. Her career in aiding survivors began years ago while she was in college, and continues to this day. Although her journey recently pivoted when she became Executive Director of the Rape Crisis Center for Northern Colorado, at the time of our recording she worked with EVAWI or End Violence Against Women International. The Broken Cycle Media team is grateful Alison was able to offer such a broad perspective of the advocacy arena, as well as a detailed account of what’s coming next for EVAWI, as the organization works to change the criminal justice and legal landscapes for victims. Although the importance of advocacy work is always relevant, this conversation is especially timely considering October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

His words and efforts have been seen everywhere from TIME magazine to the TED Talk stage; he has entitled his experiences of sexual abuse and trafficking “An Athlete’s Silence.” By sharing his story on What Came Next Episode 22 entitled An Athlete’s Silence and elsewhere, his goal is to bring awareness to predatory practices in the athletic and education worlds, as well as to change the way society receives sexual abuse victims. I am so honored he joined me AGAIN today to discuss updates in his journey. He also had the beautiful idea of flipping the script and host-swapping with Amy B. Chesler for this second part of these two episodes. John-Michael Lander is a former Olympic-bound diver, actor, author, speaker, and advocate. He also had the beautiful idea of flipping the script and host-swapping for the second part of the next two episodes. The Broken Cycle Media deeply appreciates John-Michael’s time, dedication to advocacy, and for the creativity he is bringing to the next couple episodes.
