Let's put a smile on that face. Wait... different Joker. On this episode, we head back into Gotham City for the sequel to Todd Phillips' (The Hangover, Old School, Due Date) epic character study of Arthur Fleck, aka "Joker." This film has been getting quite a lot of flack lately from audiences and critics alike. You could even say it's been getting a lot of "Fleck." Get it? Fleck. Like Arthur FLECK? HaHAHahahHA (Sorry, bad joke). But appropriate! And hey, don't we all go a little mad sometimes??? Starring Joaquin Phoenix (Gladiator, Walk the Line, The Master) and Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born, House of Gucci).

Don't even think about saying his name THREE times! That's right folk, sticking to our "Spooky Season" theme, for this episode we take a trip back down nostalgia lane to the underworld, in all it's nightmarish, comedic bureaucracy. This is a sequel to the original film 36 years after the release of Beetle Juice (1988). And brought to us by the twisted and fantastically fun mind of Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Big Fish) and starring the insanely talented Michael Keaton (Batman, Spotlight, The Founder, Birdman), Winona Ryder (Little Women, Alien: Resurrection, Stranger Things), and Jenna Ortega (Wednesday, X, Scream).

Holy macaroni folks! Emily and Preston watched The Substance and they will NEVER be the same again. This psychological horror-thriller was inspired by Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. It's equal parts absurd comedy, body-horror, and satire. Showcasing amazing performances from the cast, starring Demi Moore (Indecent Proposal, Ghost, G.I. Jane), Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, The Nice Guys, Fosse/Verdon) and Dennis Quaid (Inner Space, Frequency, Enemy Mine). This film was written/directed by the French filmmaker Coralie Fargeat (Revenge, The Sandman). Such a trippy film. And Demi Moore has still got it! Which makes us wanna stand up at the Oscars and shout... "G.I. Jane 2... CAN'T WAIT!!"

Holy macaroni folks! This movie was an absolute wild ride. So many cool things to explore with this psychological horror thriller, such as: Speak Up! Set Boundaries! It's okay to be rude sometimes. Put your safety first. And just... maybe don't talk to Strangers!!! This film is remake of a Danish film of the same title. Written/Directed by James Watkins (The Take, Eden Lake, The Woman in Black) and starring James McAvoy (Split, The Last King of Scotland. X-Men: First Class, Atonement), Mackenzie Davis (Black Mirror, Terminator: Dark Fate, Blade Runner 2049), and Scoot McNairy (12 Years a Slave, Narcos: Mexico, True Detective).

Ash is back baby! We're talking waaaaayyyy back. All the way back to 1300s Medieval England. And he's kicking some Deadite butt. And it's just... GROOVY. Armed with a chainsaw, strong jawline, action-hero one-liners, and his trust Oldsmobile, he's on a mission to get back home. But first, he has to get his hands (or hand?) on the Necronomicon. Listen in as Emily watches the third installment in the original Evil Dead trilogy, brought to us by Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, The Evil Dead, Darkman). Starring Bruce Campbell (Burn Notice, Maniac Cop, The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.) and Embeth Davidtz (Matilda, Bicentennial Man, Fallen).

Okay, we can all agree a teacher sleeping with their student is wrong, right?! But what if they're in love? And they get married and have kids AFTER the teacher is released from prison? Well, if you think it's not so black and white... then May December is for you! Directed by Todd Haynes (Carol, I'm Not There, Velvet Goldmine). This film features some excellent performances from the always-great Natalie Portman (Closer, Black Swan, V For Vendetta) and Julianne Moore (Boogie Nights, The Kids Are All Right, Children of Men). Y'know, maybe if it's a female teacher and they're only 13 years apart, it's not so... NOPE! Still wrong. But this movie was pretty good regardless.

Strap in for a classic folks! This episode, Preston guesses the plot to Emily's pick, My Left Foot. Daniel-Day Lewis (There Will Be Blood, Gangs of New York, Lincoln) plays real life Irish painter and author Christy Brown in this biopic that earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor in 1990. This film also features Brenda Fricker (A Time To Kill, Angels in the Outfield) and Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter, Killing Eve, True Detective: Night Country).

That's right, folks. We went there! Taking on the high-brow arthouse films this week when we discuss a real downer of a movie. The Zone of Interest follows the story of Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss and his wife Hedwig. Starring Christian Friedel (Babylon Berlin, The White Ribbon) and Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), and written/directed by Jonathan Glazer (Under the Skin, Sexy Beast). Brace yourselves folks, because this one was a downer! And while you might only want to see the movie once, we think you'll enjoy listening to this episode at least... once. (Not sure where we were going with that setup).

M. Night Shyamalan strikes again! And we can't tell if that's a good or a bad thing. This week Emily and Preston watch Trap, starring Josh Hartnet (Black Hawk Down, 30 Days of Night) as a serial killer nicknamed "The Butcher." The Philadelphia police and F.B.I. have the brilliant idea to set up a sting operation, sifting through 30,000 innocent bystanders to (possibly) catch a person who might be a killer. They don't know what he looks like. They don't know his name. They don't know ANYTHING about him. But that's fine! Because we get to enjoy roughly 40 minutes of Saleka Shyamalan's music, who is also M. Night Shyamalan's daughter in real life, and... I'm sorry... we just can't. It's all just so absurd. But hey, if you like taking a ride on the Shyamalan train, then who are we to Yuck Your Yum?

The third installment in the franchise, A Quiet Place: Day One was directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pig) and stars Lupita Nyong'O (12 Years a Slave, Black Panther) and Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things). Just a heads up, we don't hold anything back on this episode (as if we ever do).

Ever find yourself thinking about the origin of the "Air Jordan" sneaker deal between NIKE and Michael Jordan in the mid 1980's? Well if the answer is "YES..." then Air is the movie for you! This fun film - starring Matt Damon and directed by Ben Affleck - tells the extraordinary story behind Nike and Jordan's historic partnership. The drama behind the scenes; the corporate rivalry between Adidas and Reebok; the other athletes Nike was considering instead of Jordan (if you can even believe that).

Ahhh... 1950's America. It was a simpler time folks. Ike Eisenhower was President. The world still lived under the threat of Nuclear Annihilation. And you could still smoke on airplanes, restaurants, doctor's offices, and... well anywhere. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet bring their powerhouse talents to this film, directed by Sam Mendes. Hope we can make you laugh discussing this dark and depressing family drama.
