  • Emma is a high achieving, middle class girl from west London. She seems destined for a successful career in banking and a comfortable British life. Until she makes a decision that will come to define her. In 2001 Emma marries Bashar al-Assad - the now infamous dictator of Syria.

In the early days, people inside and out of Syria dared to hope. Alongside his beautiful, progressive wife, Bashar promised to modernise the country.

But when the Arab Spring reached Syria in 2011, Bashar's regime showed itself for what it really was: a brutal force, willing to capture and kill ordinary Syrians demanding change. And in all the years that a war raged on, Asma stands by her husband. She seemingly ignored the desperate pleas to stop her husband from killing his own people.

But what did she really know about the atrocities her husband’s government was carrying out? And what choices did she really have? Some people allege that she actually assisted the regime and cashed in on the war, that she herself is a war criminal. Others say she tried to run away but was trapped, held hostage by a regime who threatened her life and her children.

So, who is the real Emma?

  • Ed is the grandson of footballing legend Gordon Banks. He was a national icon, the only goalkeeper ever to win the soccer World Cup for England. But Ed’s heard a rumour: that in 1970, while defending the title, his granddad, his hero, was poisoned… by the CIA. All part of a Cold War plot to bolster a military dictatorship in Latin America, supposedly. Could this possibly be true? Banks did get ill in Mexico in 1970 with food poisoning. And England crashed out, marking the start of decades of hurt. Ed enlists the help of investigative journalist Gabriel Gatehouse. Together they embark on a journey into the bewildering world of Cold War espionage, a journey that threatens to unravel 60 years of sporting history; or possibly… to knock Ed’s granddad off his pedestal.

  • In Nashville Tennessee sits an unremarkable house, it’s red brick, set back from the road, in a green lawn. It looks…completely normal, but online it’s become infamous.

Over this eight part series, journalist and horror enthusiast Elizabeth McCafferty explores the world of McKamey Manor - labelled the most extreme haunt in the world. McKamey Manor is an American haunted house in which there are no limits, where thrill-seekers sign a waiver that allows the actors in the house to do anything, including real physical harm. There is allegedly an award for completing the haunt…but no one has ever succeeded. Now there’s a petition to close the manor, and some participants say it’s not a haunt at all, but a torture house, blurring the lines between fear and endurance - all run by one dangerous man - Russ McKamey.

Inside McKamey Manor explores what really happens behind the doors of one of the most controversial extreme attractions, finds out who Russ McKamey is and unpacks the industry of scaring. What’s the psychology that drives people to seek out fear and why are so many people willing to risk everything for the thrill of real fear?

  • David Ames was a twice-bankrupt double-glazing salesman from Basildon with dreams of building a Caribbean property empire. His company, Harlequin, promised ordinary investors luxury resort properties at bargain prices – their slice of paradise and financial security.

Over nearly a decade, more than 8,000 people handed over £400 million. Many bet their entire pension pots on Ames' vision.

But behind Ames’ slick marketing pitch lay financial chaos and systematic deception. While investors waited for dream properties, their money funded pirate ships, imported sand that washed away with the tide, and eye-watering sales commissions.

From a local newspaper investigation that exposed the scheme to the Serious Fraud Office's decade-long pursuit of justice, this is the story of how thousands lost everything betting on one man’s vision.

Featuring exclusive interviews with victims, investigators, and industry insiders, The Lost Caribbean Millions reveals the human cost of one of Britain's biggest investment frauds.

  • Welcome to On The Case. From the team that brought you the chart-topping, award-winning series The Trial, On The Case is the home for the Daily Mail’s stellar crime reporting beyond the courtroom… now in audio for the very first time.  Each series, a Daily Mail journalist takes us to the heart of a story they’ve been covering, featuring new details, exclusive interviews and behind the scenes insights from the biggest crime stories making headlines around the world.

Early in the morning of November 13, 2022, four University of Idaho students were found brutally stabbed to death in their off-campus rental home in Moscow, Idaho. The victims were Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. Maddie and Kaylee, both asleep in Maddie’s bed, were killed first. It was just after 4am but Xana was still up having ordered a food delivery; he stabbed her next before moving onto kill Ethan where he slept. There were no signs of forced entry - the lock of the door he slipped through was broken - and two other roommates inside the house survived. Weeks later, after an investigation shrouded in secrecy, authorities arrested the then 28-year-old Washington State University criminology Ph.D. student Bryan Kohberger at his family home in Pennsylvania. On July 2nd, Kohberger pled guilty to the murders, as part of a plea deal to avoid the death penalty. His sentencing has been set for Wednesday July 23rd, and he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

In On The Case, Laura Collins, an editor and investigative reporter at the Daily Mail in New York, and who has covered the story since the beginning, goes behind the headlines on the story that has gripped and horrified audiences on both sides of the Atlantic since it first broke in November 2022.

In this series of The Trial, Katie Hind and Jack Hardy take you inside the courtroom throughout the case of a security guard alleged to have plotted to kidnap, rape and kill the TV presenter, Holly Willoughby. Gavin Plumb allegedly assembled a kidnap kit of cable ties, rope and chloroform, and tried to find a “crew” in chat groups online to help him. The jury was told he was obsessed with Holly Willoughby and had more than 10,000 pictures of her on his phone. He was caught because one of the men he tried to recruit was an undercover US agent. Gavin Plumb denied soliciting murder, encouraging or assisting the commission of kidnap and encouraging or assisting the commission of rape. Follow the evidence as the jury heard it, in twice-weekly reports.

  • Behind every Bone Valley season is a conviction: the right story, told with purpose, humanity, and craft, can have an enormous impact. Award-winning investigative documentaries from the fault lines of America's justice system.

Bone Valley Season 5 | The Devil’s Quarry is the latest podcast from Lava for Good. It is hosted by Paul Solotaroff, award-winning investigative journalist and longtime contributing editor at Rolling Stone. For Paul, who has been digging at this story for 5 years, the devil has always been a myth, until now.

The bones of a twelve-year-old girl are found by a hunter in the woods.  A young woman lives inside a real-life horror movie, ignored by everyone she turns to for help. Corrupt cops turn a blind eye to the evil lurking in their midst. The wrong people are convicted of a crime. A drug dealer works tirelessly for justice from jail. Records are hidden. Fingers are pointed. Lives are at stake. In Carmel, NY, the heroes are humble, the power is corrupt, and the devil is real.

Bone Valley Season 4 | Earwitness chronicles the case of Toforest Jonhson. In 1995, Deputy Sheriff William G. Hardy was murdered behind a hotel in Birmingham, Alabama. Toforest Johnson was four miles away at the time and no physical evidence linked him to the crime. But he has been on Death Row for 25 years.

Bone Valley Season 3 | Graves County is a new story about a new case. Maggie Freleng, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and one of the hosts of Lava For Good’s Wrongful Conviction, takes us to a small town in Graves County, Kentucky, where a terrible discovery on the front lawn of a middle school invites a string of amateur and professional investigators to try to solve a murder.

In Season 2, Jeremy Gilbert King brings us a story about her actual killer, Jeremy Scott, fighting to prove his guilt. The State of Florida does not believe either man.

In Season 1 of Bone Valley, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Gilbert King tells a story of a man, Leo Schofield, fighting to prove his innocence in the case of his wife Michelle’s murder.

Bone Valley is a production of Lava for Good™ Podcasts in association with Signal Co. No1.

In fact, one-third of all murders in America remain open. But thanks to dogged investigators and breakthroughs in forensic technology, these cases become part of the rare 1% of cold cases that are ever solved. Cold Case Files is narrated by Marisa Pinson.

  • Anton Du Beke and Craig Revel Horwood are bringing their friendship and humour to the masses with the launch of their brand-new podcast, Judgemental on 9th June — a deliciously tongue-in-cheek show where no topic is safe and no opinion is too bold.

Bringing together two of the nation’s most recognisable personalities — and perhaps one of entertainment’s most unexpected double acts — Judgemental sees Anton and Craig meet in the tearoom for a cuppa, a gossip, and a gloriously opinionated rummage through everything that’s on their minds.

Known for their wit, wisdom and perfectly timed wise cracks, Anton and Craig will cast their eyes and opinions on pop culture, petty etiquette dilemmas, guilty pleasures, national treasures, and the most outrageous stories sent in by listeners. Think friendly bickering, theatrical verdicts, and the kind of brutally funny honesty you only get when sharing stories with your best friends.

Each episode is focused on one topic which always splits opinion - think weddings, workplace dramas, fashion, romance - and then sweating the small stuff to give them the full Judgemental treatment. Like modern-day Roman emperors — only with better tailoring and sharper one-liners — Anton and Craig will decide whether each minor (often silly) issue earns a pinky-up of approval or a pinky-down of dismissal, while enjoying a lovely cream tea.
