Ferdinand Aus der Fünten was de SS’er die tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog de dagelijkse leiding had over de deportatie van tienduizenden Joden uit Nederland.
Aus der Fünten was meer dan een schakel in de bureaucratie: hij was aanwezig bij razzia’s en had de leiding over ontruimingen van ziekenhuizen en instellingen, zoals de inrichting voor geesteszieken Het Apeldoornsche Bosch. Ook keek hij in de Hollandsche Schouwburg in Amsterdam toe hoe Joden voor deportatie werden verzameld om gedeporteerd te worden. Zo werd hij het gezicht van de deportaties in Nederland.
In deze podcast onderzoekt Rick Blom hoe Aus der Fünten uitgroeide tot deze centrale figuur. Wie was hij? Hoe kwam hij op deze positie terecht? Wat dreef hem? En wat gebeurde er met hem na de oorlog, toen hij als één van de beruchte 'Drie van Breda' meer dan veertig jaar gevangen zat?
Maar De Jodenjager is meer dan alleen een biografisch portret. Het is ook een zoektocht naar een grotere, actuele vraag: hoe kan een ‘normaal’ mens tot zulke keuzes komen? Hoe wordt een gewone man een monster? Wat zegt dat over ons? Over mij? Of jou? In een tijd van uitsluiting en polarisatie roept deze podcast op tot reflectie. Zien we het verschil tussen goed en kwaad? Kunnen we de juiste keuze maken als het erop aankomt?
De podcast belicht zo ook de bredere context van radicalisering, uitsluiting en vervolging. Blom doet dit door ooggetuigenverslagen, archiefmateriaal en interviews met historici, filosofen en persoonlijke verhalen te combineren. Het geeft een diepere kijk op de morele dilemma’s waarmee gewone mensen worden geconfronteerd en de gevolgen van hun handelen.

Rob van de Schootbrugge is muzikant en componist en droeg bij aan verschillende film- en televisieprojecten. Hij componeerde onder meer de muziek voor Taarten van Abel (VPRO), Bij Van Boven Thuis (AVROTROS), Paramaribo Pepers (VPRO) en de documentairefilms Nelson het minivarken (Anneke de Lind van Wijngaarden | KRO-NCRV) en ’s Nachts word je Moeder (Julia Roeselers en Hollandse Helden).

De Haagse Mies Walbeehm nam in haar kleine tweekamer-appartement maar liefst dertig Joodse onderduikers op, met gevaar voor haar eigen leven. Ze hielp zo in de Tweede Wereldoorlog meer dan honderd mensen aan een onderduikplek in haar woning. Toch kennen maar weinig mensen haar verhaal. Podcastmakers Marloes Vernooijs en Richard Grootbod zochten voor Omroep West het leven van Mies uit en ontdekten dat ze een veel grotere rol speelde dan tot nu toe bekend was.
